Today’s free tip is in the German Bundesliga 2 encounter between Eintracht Braunschweig and Darmstadt 98.

Shit got serious a lot sooner for Braunschweig and Wurzburger Kickers because of how badly they began their respective Bundesliga 2 campaigns following promotion. However, that in turn led to them taking 2021 a lot more seriously than the rest – far sooner, too. They’ve made a couple of good signings, buckled up, and are in the process of giving themselves a realistic chance of avoiding the drop. They really have been impressive this calendar year, Braunschweig.

They’re still not a particularly good team, for clarity, but they’ve become really organised since their defensive addition arrived. They’ve become a lot more confident in their ability to contain teams, which has served as a wonderful platform for picking up points. As ever, the problem with Braunschweig is a lack of a goal-scorer. Abdullahi has really let himself down on that front this season, hence his absence today not bothering me greatly. If they can get that goal from a set piece, or by capitalising upon shoddy defending, I really do think that Braunschweig can win today.

I think it’s a good time for them to face Darmstadt 98 too. I can’t deny that the visitors have a better squad, and better goal-scorers to boot. However, they’ve got some problematic injuries at the moment which is making it hard for them to impose themselves. They’ve struggled all season long when it’s come to defending anyway, which surprisingly didn’t alter when Icelandic organiser Palsson returned from injury. I thought they were set for a good campaign but the reality right now is that they’d do well to avoid relegation.

They’re not having much luck either, Darmstadt 98. It all started when they inexplicably scored the own goal at the death to lose 2-1 at home against ten-men Nurnberg. Now they’ve got significant injury problems with defensive regular Mai, new defender Isherwood, and towering attacker Seydel both on the sidelines. It may not be surprising to see the latter out, but he’s certainly missed because he’s hard to handle, which makes poacher Dursun’s life a lot easier. Without those players, the only games they’ve thrived in are those that have been open, and they simply won’t be afforded that luxury today as Braunschweig are no longer defending in a suicidal fashion.

I think this game will be really tough for Darmstadt 98, in other words. This pitch is not in great condition anyway; it’s very bumpy, which doesn’t help teams that predominantly play along the floor. Then they’ve got to break them down, which seems unlikely, whilst also keeping them out, which seems even less likely. I don’t doubt that Darmstadt 98 are the better of the two teams but are they really in a position to prove it right now? Not for my money.

Lastly, don’t forget that Braunschweig managed to bring in forgotten South Korea forward Ji Dong-won. He’s been a really healthy addition to their frontline, even if his finishing isn’t A1 just yet, striking up a good relationship with Proschwitz. Bluntly put, I think Braunschweig have enough to go ahead here, and if they do, they really should win it.

Verdict: Eintracht Braunschweig to win with draw no bet at 5/4.
