Today’s secondary featured game is the Allsvenskan game between Atvidaberg and Gefle.

Atvidaberg are surprisingly top of the league after two games. I seriously doubt that they’ll be there at the end of the season but it’s certainly an amusing sight for now. Atvidaberg have been dealt a rather generous hand with their early season fixtures with games against defenderless Orebro and poor travellers GAIS Goteborg being followed by a home game with goal-shy Gefle. Still, you can only beat what is in front of you and that is precisely what Atvidaberg have done, to their credit. Quality-wise, they’re not all there although Bergstrom, Suljic, Prodell, and Moller have all made an impact. This side is still predominantly a Superettan side with their defence being very weak indeed. I doubt we’ll see many clean sheets for Atvidaberg this season but I doubt we’ll see many games where they don’t score either. It’s not so much that their attackers are particularly good but Atvidaberg are an attacking side and they have developed a good level of understanding with one another so they’re a side to take seriously. For me, today’s game with Gefle is the easiest out of the three that they’ve had so far this season and if they score goals here then they should really win it.

Gefle have little runs where they like to piss everyone off by beating sides that they’re simply not good enough to beat. I like their striker Dahlberg a lot although he’s not what he was at Djurgarden, it has to be said. Scoring goals is Gefle’s biggest problem, which isn’t helped by the fact that they’re a rather morose defensive side. Olsson signed Oremo pre-season to bolster their attacking options but seriously – if you can’t get in Djurgarden’s starting eleven as a striker then you’re not much good and that’s precisely what happened to Oremo last season. They’ve got energy in their side, Gefle, and some decent players, but they’re overall a rather weak and thin squad. For me, they’re potential relegation candidates this season but I say that most seasons and yet they seem to still have these special powers of survival. The most notorious part of Gefle’s team is goalkeeper Hugosson, who carries an immense record of having played every game for Gefle since they were promoted to the Allsvenskan in 2005. His experience helps his defence out massively. Gefle’s other big problem is that they have a rather youthful squad this time around. All in all, this Gefle side is not well-placed to do anything this season, in my eyes.

Gefle may have raised a few eyebrows with their draw at Malmo FF at the start of the season but that wasn’t a huge surprise. Don’t get me wrong, I did think Malmo would win the game but they’re not the most reliable of sides, Malmo. They sometimes lack the energy and belief that a side with nothing to lose (like Atvidaberg) has plenty of, which is why today’s game should be different for Gefle. We saw what Gefle were truly made of with their shitty 1-1 draw with Syrianska Sodertalje and that’s the Gefle that I expect to see today.

Considering that Gefle lost two key players pre-season in Theorin and Chibsah, whom they’ve not really replaced adequately, I can’t give Gefle any credit at all. They’re playing on natural turf today when they usually play on artificial turf and they’re facing a side that only knows how to attack and score goals. With the above in mind, the home win at evens interests me a lot.

Verdict: Atvidaberg to win at evens.
