Today’s secondary featured game is the UEFA European U21 Championship Qualifier between Azerbaijan U21 and Belgium U21.

This game was played a few days ago but in Belgium and the hosts on that occasion ran out 4-1 winners and a similar scoreline wouldn’t surprise me today. Although Ojo has withdrawn from the Belgium U21 squad, the visitors still have plenty of power in their team, especially in attack where De Bruyne and El Ghanassy patrol. Belgium U21’s defence is pretty susceptible, much as their senior team’s defence is, but their attack is strong and they should make it count here. Azerbaijan U21 are a weak side on every level and although they do have the home advantage here, I fancy a cheeky punt on the -1.5 handicap for Belgium U21 today.

Verdict: Belgium U21 to beat the -1.5 handicap at evens.

Monday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Estonia U21 vs Croatia U21 – lay Croatia U21 at 4/5.

This is a risky one as I’m not 100% convinced by the Estonia U21 side just yet. However, they’ve got numerous advantages here that make it look worthwhile to me. Firstly, they’re at home. Secondly, they’ve got good attacking players in Tamm (IFK Norrkoping), the Anier brothers (both at Flora Tallinn), and Prosa, the latter of which plays on this ground for Maag Tammeka Tartu in the Meistriliiga. There are goals in those four attackers, in my view. Midfield looks a little weak but their defence tends to present a solid unit and I think that they can frustrate Croatia U21 here. Thirdly, Estonia U21 haven’t played a game in the last few days so they’re fresh and raring to go, unlike their visitors, who had an exhausting tie with Spain U21 at home, which they lost 0-2. I watched the game between Croatia U21 and Spain U21 and although I was impressed with the Croatian tactics of pressurising the Spanish backline (which worked!) I just don’t rate their team. There’s a lot of bad morale in the camp following poor result after poor result in this competition and Croatia U21 are yet to score in three consecutive games now. Realistically, they should have scored against Spain U21 by forcing defensive mistakes from their Iberian opponents but they failed to capitalise on them and were punished due to defensive laxity and a lack of organisation. Croatia U21 worked hard enough but they just don’t have the quality and taking a tired Croatia U21 side to face a decent Estonia U21 side looks a very tough task to me, especially as the side is low on confidence right now. Therefore, I think there could be value in laying Croatia U21 at 4/5 today.

Verdict: Lay Croatia U21 at 4/5.
