Bari vs Udinese

Free

Today’s featured game is the Serie A encounter between surprise package Bari and the disappointing Udinese. Bari have impressed me greatly following promotion from Serie B and have frustrated some big sides with some stout displays. Visitors Udinese have been poor so far in this campaign and have fallen well below the expectations of the masses pre-season.

Bari have already won five out of eight home games this season, losing just once along the way. They’re the lowest conceding side in Serie A when it comes to playing at home with an average of just one goal conceded for every two home games that they play. Bari don’t tend to score many goals either but with their lack of goals conceded certainly helps their cause greatly. Bari are very much the atypical well-organised side that are playing in a division they’re not really good enough to be in quality-wise – they fight for every ball and play with great team spirit. In Italy, this style of football tends to be very effective with newly-promoted sides often doing well in Serie A, so it should be interesting to see where Bari end up at the end of the season. Bari have won their last four home games consecutively and have only conceded twice in those games, even managing to comfortably overcome Italian giants Juventus along the way.

Visitors Udinese have a very good squad of players but they simply don’t appear to utilise them to anywhere near the level that they’re capable of doing so. Udinese have now lost four out of their last five games and have one of the worst away records in Serie A with six defeats in eight games. Udinese don’t concede more goals on the road than the average Serie A side but they do tend to score less goals than the average Serie A side on the road, managing just five goals in eight games so far. Udinese have let themselves down thus far and it’s hard to see them emerging from their slump with an apparent lack of leadership, consistency, and goals.

With the above in mind, you have to feel that Bari have enough in their favour to make this bet good value. Bari are traditionally strong at home and hard to break down. Udinese cannot break sides down and are atrocious on the road so all logic points to the home win if Bari get their noses in front!

Verdict: Bari to win at 11/10.
