Breidablik Kopavogur vs Stjarnan Gardabaer

Before I begin my preview, I have to comment on last night’s Confederations Cup action. I made some very accurate predictions on the Brazil vs Italy game (hopefully you all won some money on that!) and was happy to see that, of course. However, I just felt a real sense of pity and almost embarassment for the Italy side. Throughout my entirely life, Italy has been a magnificent, passionate footballing nation with tremendous history and prestigé. I’ve always respected them and their players, their kind of classy and yet efficient style. To see them so easily swept away by Brazil was almost heartbreaking in a strange kind of way. Italy just looked frail and old against a young and vibrant Brazil side that is still one of the weakest they’ve had for some years despite the result yesterday. Despite being richer for Italy’s loss, I still felt sorry for Italy and their gradual descent towards being nothing more than an average international side that will fade into the archives of time, much like Hungary or Czechoslovakia. Still, perhaps some talented youngsters like Giovinco will bring forth a new Italy and bring back some glory days. I sure hope so – I don’t want to see a repeat of this demolition anytime soon!

Moving onto this clash in the Icelandic Landsbankadeild Karla today between Breidablik Kopavogur and Stjarnan Gardabaer, however – for some reason, the bookies are giving 2/1 on what should be a relatively comfortable away win. The hosts can be best described as “battling relegation” for the majortiy of the Landsbankadeild Karla existence. As a club, they tend to have more issues than the Iraqi Government. Needless to say that this really doesn’t help their football. They’re entertaining surprise package Stjarnan Gardabaer. I’ve been impressed with this side’s ruthless goalscoring ability since being promoted from 1 Deild Karla last season. They’re a bit of a home side with four of their five wins this season coming at home. However, they’re not bad away from home either, having only lost once on the road this season and that was to reigning champions FH Hafnarfjordur. Breidablik Kopavogur are a poor side, however, and I’ll confess to being extremely surprised if this isn’t an away win. I could accept a draw because all good runs must come to an end, but a home win should be out of the question, really. Breidablik Kopavogur have only won one game from four at home so far this season. The visitors boast three wins from their last five and the hosts haven’t won in their last five. All these reasons make me even more confused as to why the bookies are offering 2/1 on an away win but I’m not here to question it – I’m here to take advantage of it!

Monday’s Picks

My tips:

There’s only two bets today with any significant value, in my opinion. They’re both listed below in no particular order:

Breidablik Kopavogur vs Stjarnan Gardabaer – away win at 2/1 – see introduction for full details

Finland U21 vs Spain U21Spain U21 win with -1.5 goal handicap at 5/6. This should be pretty self-explanatory, really. Spain U21 haven’t played anywhere near as well as they’re capable of but I’m confident they will against Finland U21 because the Finns are the worst in the group and already out of the tournament. Spain U21 have to win this game convincingly to have any chance of progressing for the next stage of the competition, and that would require England U21 beating Germany U21. It’s fair to say that the quality and the incentive is there, so this bet should really come in.
