Today’s secondary featured game is the Brazilian Serie A game between Fluminense and Internacional.

With Abel Braga at the helm, Fluminense have started to look a force in Brazil once more. He’s brought in the likes of Rafael Sobis to try and increase their capacity for scoring goals but their defence remains as solid as ever. Fluminense are arguably one of the strongest defensive units in Brazil but they do still need some improvement when it comes to creating and scoring goals. I suppose you could point to the continued absence of Deco, Fred, and the afore-mentioned Rafael Sobis as to why Fluminense aren’t finding the net more regularly when compared to the amount of possession that they have but they’re certainly good at keeping other sides out. A further complication for Braga’s boys is the absence of newcomer Wellington Nem, who is still in USA with the Brazilian national team. Fluminense still have the capacity to dominate possession here but they’re just not very well placed to score goals here, in my view.

Internacional are a better goalscoring side than Fluminense but talismanic striker Leandro Damiao and midfielder Oscar are both in USA with the Brazilian national team so their own ability to score goals is somewhat lessened. They’ve still got pacey Dagoberto, who would love to score against the arch-rivals of the club that raised him, but his finishing isn’t as good as it should be. I don’t believe Villarreal striker Nilmar is wearing the colours of Internacional just yet either, although it’s supposedly only a matter of time before he is. Dorival Junior is doing a good job with Internacional, packing them full of attacking talent whilst granting them a good level of composure to boot. D’Alessandro is one of the top playmakers in Serie A right now and with fellow countrymen Bolatti, Datolo, and Guinazu alongside him, the former River Plate man tends to be given a license to dominate and he usually takes it, too. Despite the brilliance of D’Alessandro, however, you do have to wonder how successful Internacional will be in shattering a stiff Fluminense resolve without Damiao here and my answer would be “not very”.

The above leaves me with the idea that this game will go under 2.5 goals. I’m tempted to take the home win as Abel Braga knows his old club Internacional pretty well but I’d prefer to avoid the 1×2 market overall. Instead, I’d much rather opt for under 2.5 goals between two sides that are missing some good offensive weapons for this game.

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 4/5. Why not bet on this game now at William Hill?
