Today’s secondary featured game is the A PFG game between heavyweights Levski Sofia and battling Beroe.

Although Levski Sofia are rightfully favourites here, the odds are an absolute joke for a Levski side that has largely under-performed this season as they host a side that has a reputation in Bulgaria for being very hard to beat.

It’s a must-win game for Levski today, it’s true. To me, that makes this game harder, though, especially for young Mladenov. The experience that Levski used to possess isn’t really there any longer. I remember when they had a superb attacking side that functioned really well, back when Joaozinho and Tasevski supported target man Dembele. Levski were unplayable during that time. Nowadays, though, it’s just too easy for other sides to damage them. Levski concede goals far too easily, hence the fact that they’ve lost a ridiculous eight games this season. Indeed, Slavia Sofia have only won three games less than they have and that alone should indicate that Levski have not been at their best. On the pitch, though, they’re running out of heroes. Toni Calvo has started to lead the team from midfield but he’s out today. Yovov’s experience and skill should be extremely useful here but he’s out too. So is squad rotation player Dimov. Consider that Levski have parted with Greene and Tasevski and suddenly this Levski midfield looks very average to me. Who is going to carry them here – Gadzhev? He’s capable but they’re facing such a stubborn side that it’s hard to take the odds on Levski seriously today, especially with fairly average strikers up front too. Even Tsvetkov has been out of form recently!

Can Beroe capitalise here? I don’t see why not. I suppose you could question their motivation here but with Levski having just poached boss Iliev from Beroe, I think it’s very likely that Beroe will react here. Happily, they’ve been excellent in recent weeks, going six games without defeat whilst conceding just once during that run. Beroe aren’t a side that can match the big boys of the A PFG – yet – but they’re not far away, either. I still rate them as one of the best sides in Bulgaria from a defensive perspective. Their problem is that they don’t create enough chances nor score enough goals, hence them usually disappearing into mid-table annonymity. However, they’re starting to add a bit of flair to the team with Elias and especially Caiado and I think they’ll continue to improve. I respect Beroe and their strong organisational displays a lot and although their manager is gone, I still fancy them to continue with their wave of momentum here and produce yet another stubborn display to frustrate a decent opponent.

With the above in mind, I have to favour Beroe here. Levski are lacking a lot of players that they need to unlock Beroe’s strong defence and Levski may not even win this game as a result. If Levski do win the game then I’ll be surprised to see the result beating the handicap as it just defies belief right now. For me, giving Beroe a +1.5 handicap looks very interesting indeed at 9/10.

Verdict: Beroe to win with a +1.5 handicap at 9/10.
