Today’s secondary featured game is the Soproni Liga game between Gyori ETO FC and Lombard Papa.
As one of the heavyweights of Hungarian football, a good start to the campaign like Gyori ETO FC have shown so far this season shouldn’t really be a surprise. However, it was a little to me as they’ve lost some big players over the past couple of years and I thought that would hurt them more than it has. They had a bad time last year but have really solidified this year. They’re as bad as ever away from home but with seven wins from seven home games this season, it’s clear to see where their strength lies – as usual! They’ve got good options in attack though, with ex-Chelsea attack Aleksidze still playing and pacey Dudas alongside him. There’s plenty of experience in this side and a lot of composure too. I like Gyori when they play well at home – they’re a nightmare to face and everyone in this division knows it. They’ve not conceded in their last three home games and have beaten the -1 Asian Handicap in three out of their last four home games too. I wouldn’t call Gyori an entertaining side, per se, but they’re ruthlessly efficient and I do like that in sides!
Visitors Lombard Papa are a weak side this year, just as they were last year, and they year before that. They work hard as a unit and underestimating them can be a problem but quality-wise, they’re simply not in the same league as their hosts. They’ve managed to avoid defeat in just one out of their last five away games in the Soproni Liga with their most recent defeat being the 3-0 crushing at Kecskemeti TE. They do have some good players, Lombard Papa, the best of which is unquestionably Serbian striker Maric without whom they simply cannot play. I also like Estonian playmaker Puri and his fellow midfielder Ganugrava but their defence is weak and their organisation is poor at best so expecting them to tackle a resilient Gyori ETO FC side today and be successful appears to be more optimistic than realistic.
For me, the -1 Asian Handicap is priced generously enough to take a chance on today. Gyori may shut up shop and roll with a narrow home win but you’ll get your money back if that’s the case anyway. I’d be surprised if the visitors showed enough here to get a result at a very difficult ground and given the strong firepower that the hosts show at home, I think the -1 Asian Handicap is well worth a flutter here!
Verdict: Gyori ETO FC to beat the -1 Asian Handicap at 4/5.
