Today’s featured game is the Veikkausliiga game between KuPS Kuopio and Haka Valkeakoski.
KuPS have been up-and-down this season but are generally solid at home. I’m a bit tired of saying how good a side they are and then they go and disappoint with a poor display or concede stupid goals. However, they do have a good level of firepower and despite defensive errors, they can generally win games by scoring goals and I fancy them to do that today. They’re the better side and they’re playing at home on artificial turf, for starters – that benefits KuPS a lot. Most important of all is the return of star striker Nwakaeme to the starting line-up though. I don’t know if he’ll stay beyond this game but one thing I do know is that KuPS have a very good finisher when he plays and the above makes the home win interesting here.
Haka are a poor side that works hard. They’re decent in Valkeakoski and seem to have special powers of survival despite being a poor team. On the road, however, they do tend to unravel due to being weak at the back. Their defensive ineptitude should increase tenfold now that talented defender Lahti has joined HJK Helsinki on loan and especially now that his defensive partner Nooitmeer is suspended. That leaves Haka without a central defence and with the return of Nwakaeme very likely today, that spells big probems for the visitors. They’re missing quite a few others too, including playmaker Weckstrom and attacking midfielder Robinson, both of which are very important to the team. Haka are not at all well placed to deal with KuPS here, basically.
KuPS’ form isn’t as reliable as it should be so approach with some caution here. However, quality-wise, KuPS should be shorter here, especially with Haka missing their central defenders. Therefore, 9/10 on the home win for the superior of these two sides is very appealing today.
Verdict: KuPS Kuopio to win at 9/10.
