Today’s secondary featured game is the Argentinian Primera Division encounter between Godoy Cruz de Mendoza and Quilmes. These two sides differ in what they’re seeking but both require points and it’s shown in recent games so I don’t expect to see anything less than 100% commitment from both sides tonight.

Godoy have actually lost their way a bit lately, surprisingly. They’re arguably the most spirited side in Argentina but perhaps the new experience of their Copa Libertadores voyage has made the players weary. Either way, they were destroyed 1-4 at home by Arsenal de Sarandi last match and need to bounce back sooner rather than later. Only a handful of sides have scored more than Godoy at home and only a handful of sides have conceded more at home than Godoy so you can see why they’ve won three home games and lost three home games thus far! Happily, there isn’t a better average than Godoy’s when it comes to games containing goals. The average number of goals in Godoy’s games is 3.46, which is by far the highest in the division. Their incisive ability in front of goal and lack of interest in defending generally makes this side a good side to watch and given that six out of their last seven games have gone over 2.5 goals, I see no reason to expect anything other here.

Quilmes are one of Argentin’s oldest clubs and the team are beginning to feel that pride seemingly, as they battle onward to try and beat relegation. Quilmes have truly leapt from zero to hero after suffering countless defeats before going on a five-match unbeaten run ahead of this encounter. It’s no surprise whatsoever that all five of those games have gone over 2.5 goals because Quilmes don’t defend well but the fact is that they’re scoring goals and attacking with purpose so my hat goes off to them; they’ve not done that often since promotion. This side does have to be taken seriously, however – they’ve won at Banfield and Velez Sarsfield respectively in their last two away games so why not again tonight? All five of Quilmes’ last five games have had a minimum of four goals per game in action-packed games that reek of desperation but are also an entertaining watch for the same reason. Quilmes have terrific belief and momentum currently and for once, Godoy look set to have their belief matched by an opposing side so it’ll be interesting to see what effect that has here.

As a spectacle, this game should be the best one today, in my view. A draw doesn’t help either team and neither is tactically strong enough to ride out a draw in this game. Both sides are deploying attacking football and both score a lot of goals so over 2.5 goals at 9/10 appeals to me here.

Team news – Godoy Cruz de Mendoza have doubts over German Voboril.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 9/10.

Friday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Sparta Prague vs Bohemians 1905 – over 2.5 goals at 9/10.

Giants Sparta Prague are well and truly turning up the heat on league leaders Viktoria Plzen and Plzen are definitely feeling it with nervous displays and even red cards in their recent games. To me, they’re buckling and that suits Sparta Prague superbly as they’re very experienced in title chasing, as you all know.

However, Sparta have a bigger obstacle today than statistics suggest because as small a club as Bohemians 1905 undoubtedly are, the Prague-based outfit will be more than keen to prevent their more illustrious neighbours from obtaining the Gambrinus Liga title and you can bet they’ll do everything possible to prevent them from managing it. Bohemians 1905 are acutally one of the best supported sides in this division so don’t doubt their support here.

Now, I can’t deny that I fully expect Sparta Prague to win this game because they have better players and are on a good run. However, they’re making hard work of all their games at the moment and I expect that to occur today. The continued absence of veteran goalkeeper Blazek is causing all kinds of problem in defence with goalkeeper Zitka arguably at fault for both goals conceded against Teplice lately and even though experienced Repka is at the back for Sparta, they’re still looking susceptible in defence. However, they don’t appear as concerned because their attack has rediscovered its potency with Kweuke in fine form, Kadlec ever-threatening despite his young age, and new signings Pekhart and Keric finally beginning to contribute as they should. With Vacek and Sionko on the flanks and Matejovsky through the middle to support any of the afore-mentioned, Sparta easily have one of the best attacks in the Czech Republic and thus it’s no surprise that as those players have all gelled, Sparta’s last six Gambrinus Liga games have included four which have cleared 2.5 goals.

Therefore, you can see the foundation for today’s bet. Bohemians 1905 don’t generally score many on the road and you won’t find many sides that participate in more under 2.5 goals games than Bohemians. However, Bohemians can score here but doing so against a superior Sparta Prague side is like poking a sleeping dragon in the eye so I do expect retribution. Make no mistake – this game means a lot to Bohemians 1905 and their fans, especially for star striker Hartig as he’s facing his former club. Bohemians have every motivation to stop Sparta here but they know they have to score to have a chance of doing so and thus I don’t expect their average defensive away display.

Sparta are susceptible at the back but dangerous in attack and Bohemians are up for doing whatever it takes to stop Sparta winning this game. For me, I think over 2.5 goals is worth a punt at 9/10.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 9/10.

Accumulator fodder:

Sparta Prague.
