Today’s featured game is the UEFA Champions League encounter in Italy between reigning champions Internazionale and German giants Bayern Munich. This game is a carbon copy of last year’s final so there’s bound to be some tension here.

Hosts Internazionale aren’t the same side as last year, however. The absent Mourinho has left Internazionale in a somewhat comatose state for the majority of the season under Rafa Benitez and Inter have slipped from all recognition en mass. The appointment of ex-AC Milan midfielder Leonardo as boss has helped to introduce a very attacking game to Inter but their defence has suffered massively as a result with Inter conceding goals for fun since his appointment. Inter have finally been able to include experienced defender Lucio in their team who will possibly face his old club tonight. However, despite his inclusion, Inter are still almost guaranteed to concede – they’ve only kept three clean sheets in thirteen games under Leonardo! Five out of Inter’s six games in the Champions League this season have gone over 2.5 goals due to abject defending and some very talented attacking players and I don’t see that changing with Leonardo at the helm as he makes his team play very attacking football.

Visitors Bayern Munich are a bit lightweight in attack when it comes to playing outside of the Bundesliga as the Bundesliga generally doesn’t have strong strikers. However, what they lack in strikers they make up for in wingers with the dreaded duo of Ribery and Robben set to police the flanks and scare a susceptible Inter defence shitless in this game. I’m not a huge advocate of Bayern as I feel their name explains their odds much more than their displays but they put 100% into every game despite their shoddy defence and they do score goals so fair play to them. I cannot take any side seriously when they field holding midfielder Tymoschuk in central defence on a regular basis but that’s their call, I suppose. Five out of Bayern’s six Champions League games have gone over 2.5 goals, just like Inter’s record, because neither side can defend and both are attacking freely.

Therefore, my call here has to be over 2.5 goals. There is history between these two sides and there’s enough attacking ability overall for there to be three goals or more in this game. The only way I can see it failing is if the same shit that hit last night’s games comes around tonight because these two sides just scream “over 2.5 goals” in almost every game that they play in so over 2.5 goals at 4/5 really appeals to me here.

Team news – Internazionale miss Samuel, Milito, Suazo, and Pazzini whereas Bayern Munich miss Olic.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 4/5.
