Today’s secondary featured game is the Super Lig encounter between Karabukspor and Bursaspor. This is a largely redundant game so the odds immediately confuse me!
Ok – we have to appreciate that Besiktas are the better side here. That’s not a secret really, is it? However, whether they can demonstrate that in this game remains to be seen because they’ve got a lot of problems at the current time.
For example, let’s take a cursive glance at their injury list, which includes a number of important players such as Simao, Ernst, Ismai Koybasi, Pektemek etc. Then consider that they’ve changed managers very recently (appointed ex-convict Tayfur Havuctu as boss!) and are likely to change managers again prior to next season. Throw into the mix the bad relationship that Tayfur had with Guti and Quaresma (calling them “faggots”, for instance) so he’s not exactly a dressing room pleasing appointment! Quaresma is apparently complaining to UEFA about unpaid wages and in all honesty, nobody from Besiktas JK gives a shit right now, to be blunt. They have little to play for and if their recent game with Samsunspor is anything to go by then this could well be another goalless draw.
Obviously, Besiktas could turn it on and win the game – they absolutely have the players to do it, too. Given their run of form and all the information above, though, it seems wildly unrealistic that they’re priced at around 1/2 to win the game. Karabukspor may have nothing left to play for and a Cup game to consider in the near future but let’s bear in mind that the only two sides to win more home games in the Super Lig were Galatasaray and Fenerbahce respectively and you can see just how dangerous Karabukspor can be. They’ve got a good man-motivator in charge and this side scores goals because it doesn’t fear other teams. They can concede goals and they’re not as good as Besiktas but I think it’s crazy that the bookies think this will be a nailed-on away win.
I see value in the Asian Handicap +1 but cannot find odds at the moment so I’ll lay the visitors at extremely generous odds of 7/5.
Verdict: Lay Besiktas JK at 7/5.
