Today’s secondary featured game is the Veikkausliiga game in Finland between MyPa and Honka.
MyPa have over-achieved this season and it’s starting to show. Barring their enthusiastic 5-0 drubbing of Welsh amateurs Newi Cefn Druids, MyPa have struggled for a few weeks in a row. They’ve struggled to take the chances that they’ve had. They’ve struggled to keep sides out massively. Most importantly of all, though, they’ve struggled with their congested fixture schedule. MyPa were one of the sides that grumbled when the Finnish FA announced the increased number of Veikkausliiga games due to their lack of depth and now it’s even more evident as to why with MyPa unexpectedly competing in Europe. MyPa have only just returned from a 3-1 defeat in Romania against Rapid Bucharest and have to host the Romanian giants next week so they really should struggle against Honka today, whether they actually manage to rotate players or not as this is their fourth game in ten days.
The question is whether Honka can take advantage of it or not. I’m always a bit dubious about backing Honka to win because of their unbelievable ability to concede against any side at any time. However, they do play some good football and they are a better side than MyPa so expecting them to beat them isn’t so big an ask, is it? Their displays lately have been convincing and unlike their hosts, Honka don’t have European committments this season. Admittedly, it’s Honka’s midfield that are carrying the team with none of their strikers yet to establish themselves this season despite proven hitman Dudu being in the Honka side. However, Vesara, Otaru, and the ever-impressive Vayrynen are doing plenty of damage right now and with a fresher squad and better players, I fancy them to beat MyPa today.
Approach the game with caution as Honka really do concede against any side that sets foot in their half. It may even be prudent to trade out if the tip is winning at some stage as we’ve all had our hands burned by Honka’s bad defending at the end of games before now. However, with the above in mind, I do see value in taking Honka to win this game at 6/5.
