After much work behind the scenes during the breaks of repeated “Mock The Week” programmes myself and Toby have decided to see what adding a forum to this website would do so here we are! It’s very easy to see, sat up there on the top bar, so feel free to use it for general discussion or tips of your own or if only to slander us! Either way, we’re hoping it goes well and that you guys enjoy it.

Today’s featured games is Brescia vs Torino in the Italian Serie B. Both of these sides are amongst the favourites to gain promotion to Serie A which immediately tells you that this should be a close game. However, the fact that this game is early in the season means that there’s no particular media attention putting pressure on the players and managers, which tends to leave the game open to a more footballing outcome rather than a pressurised outcome. Despite a good season last year, Brescia haven’t been quite firing on all cylinders yet, despite having won once and drawn once in their opening two games. They just don’t seem to be able to score at the moment as they’ve notched up just one goal over their two games thus far, which is a pretty big problem when the time comes that form is no longer you ally. They managed to score quite a lot of goals last year but have faltered against Cittadella and Crotone, two sides they really shouldn’t be stuttering for goals against, in my opinion. Torino, by contrast, have entered Serie B with a bang and seem hell- bent on being the first back into Serie A. They’ve played two times, won both, scored six and still haven’t conceded a goal. Not only that, but the two sides Torino have dismantled were Grosseto and Empoli, two sides that were vying for promotion last season to Serie A, so they’re not idiots, although Grosseto have decreased in quality over the summer. Torino are playing the kind of football that Brescia should be but aren’t quite managing to yet. As there’s no particular pressure on this fixture and the visitors are in such fine form, I’m really tempted to take 7/5 on the away win here today!

Sunday’s Picks

My tips:

As hard as it is to believe, the below games are the only value ones I’ve managed to find today as most games look like makeweights in accumulators, if anything. Anyway, as ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Brescia vs Torino – away win at 7/5 – see introduction for full details.

Moss vs Hamarkamaratene – home win at 6/4. I expect a really close game between these two sides but I’m feeling the home win today. Why? Well, despite losing last match, Moss have been on something of a resurgence of late and are beginning to show the potential they possess. Aside from that, they also boast a somewhat daunting home record of six wins from ten games, losing just twice in the Adeccoligaen at home this season. Hamarkamaratene, for all their qualities, just don’t turn up away from home. One win on the road this season and six defeats say that they’re prime candidates to lose this game, despite them being a little bit better than the hosts today, in my opinion. As I said earlier, this should be a close game but taking a nibble on 6/4 for the home win could be worth your time.

Numancia vs Elche – home win at 3/4. Recently-relegated Numancia entertain Elche today with neither side really knowing just where they’re at. Elche managed to lose at home to Huesca in their opening game, a side they should be at least able to match, whereas Numancia overcame a weakened Celta Vigo side after summer’s transfers. However, a mid-week cup defeat for both sides against sides they shouldn’t really be losing to means that this game is going to be interesting if only in a bizarre form, sort of like watching a dog chase its tail! Either way, one thing that is clear is that Elche look set to be in for a long season whereas Numancia have shown they at least have the capability to win a game and have some quality players left from their time in the Primera Liga. For those reasons, a home win at 3/4 should be a good bet.
