Queens Park Rangers vs Leicester City

Sorry for the extremely late update guys – my computer is shit, unfortunately!

Today’s featured game is the English Championship encounter between Queens Park Rangers and Leicester City. The hosts have produced a remarkable string of performances lately that are worthy of earning them a place in the English Premier League. However, to make sure that this goal is achieved, they need to maintain their excellent footballing style, starting tonight against Leicester City. They’ve won three consecutive games, not only executing beautiful football but also emphasising mental strength, particularly after coming from 2 goals down away to Derby County last match to win 4-2. Only Cardiff City have scored more goals than a rampant Queens Park Rangers this season but not even the Welsh side has scored more goals than Queens Park Rangers at home. Today’s hosts may not have won as many home games as they’d have liked so far but they are unbeaten there and possess great momentum. Interestingly enough, Leicester City have been grinding out results lately, which is most likely why the odds on the home win are so good here. Leicester City have adapted their footballing style perfectly for their Championship challenge after promotion from League One as they’ve made themselves very hard to beat, which is atypically their trademark. This game certainly won’t be easy for Queens Park Rangers, particularly as Leicester City are unbeaten in five Championship games now, but the hosts are playing well enough to break down a resilient Leicester City. The visitors may be difficult to beat but when quality and hard work confronts them as an opponent then they tend to lose the game, muc as they did against Preston North End and Newcastle United earlier this season. Queens Park Rangers are more than capable of winning this game and I think 10/11 on the home win here is something of a bargain today!

Friday’s PicksMy tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

Queens Park Rangers vs Leicester City – home win at 10/11 – see introduction for full detail.

Inter Zapresic vs Istra 1961 – home win at 5/6. With an average of over three goals per away game conceded, Istra 1961 have the unfortunate record of conceding more away goals than any other Prva Liga side so far this season. It doesn’t help that they’ve lost four from their six away games with two draws indicating the only points they’ve managed to pick up on the road. No wins in five and three consecutive defeats leave Istra 1961 in a place where no football side wants to be in just about every scenario you can envision with the above information in mind. Hosts Inter Zapresic aren’t much better off but they remain better off nonetheles. They won their last home game in a 4-3 encounter with Zadar so they at least have something to cling onto amidst their horrendous run of defeats. Inter Zapresic have won twice and drawn once in six home games, which isn’t a bad record considering their league placing. Inter Zapresic are used to the relegation battle – they’re in it most of the time! One thing you have to note about Inter Zapresic is that they tend to score in the majority, if not entirety, of their games, something which will be key against a leaky and goal-shy Istra 1961. Although I expect a very tight, battling game between these two sides I think Inter Zapresic has enough experience and home advantage to win this game at 5/6.

Southend United vs Gillingham – home win at evens. Although having not dominated as much as normal at home in League One this season, Southend United remain a very potent side, a side that can burst at any moment and beat any side in this division. In their last home match, however, they managed to beat high-flying Bristol Rovers 2-1, an impressive scoreline that will have boosted their confidence. Although their away form is down in the doldrums, their home form tends to be their saving grace. They proved it last season and they’re trying to reproduce it for this season, too. It assists my cause that they’re hosting Gillingham tonight, a side that nobody in League One has lost more away games than. Gillingham have lost six from seven away games this season, conceding over two goals per away game on average and scoring  one every other game almost! Just one win in five games and three defeats to boot, it’s hard to look beyond a home win for Southend United tonight and odds of evens on this selection makes it one of my favourite bets of the day!

Laval vs Guingamp – home win at 10/11. Although Laval’s recent form has been patchy at best, it’s worth noting that they’ve only lost once at home this season, winning twice and drawing twice. Atypically, this isn’t enough for me to call the home win but Guingamp’s horrendous away form is what draws me into this game. Guingamp have lost four from six away games and although they’re not big conceders of goals, they almost never score away from home, something that they’ve managed to do just once so far this season. Therefore, although I expect a relatively low-scoring game, I do think a home win is on the cards at 10/11 due to who woeful Guingamp currently are away from home.

Tours vs Clermont Foot – home win at 3/4. I surely don’t need to preview this, do I? You know my thoughts on backing Tours at home! Tours claimed an invaluable and tricky away win against Strasbourg, a win that will have given them some much-needed momentum as they entertain lowly Clermont Foot tonight. I can’t see anything other than a straightforward home win at 3/4 for a very good home side here today.

Cracovia Krakow vs GKS Belchatow – away win at 6/5. A demoralising defeat against Odra Wodzislaw last match has plummeted Cracovia Krakow’s already stretched morale to even further depths. They’ve now lost three from their last five games and have only won one game in the eleven Ekstraklasa games that they’ve played so far this season. Poor performances and poor morale tends to lead to poor results, a trend I thoroughly expect to continue as they host a very much in-form GKS Belchatow. The visitors have now won four consecutive games without even conceding a goal, something that is sure to terrify goal-shy Cracovia Krakow. Not only are the hosts no match for the visitors but all of the other points that must be considered prior to making a bet also lean towards a GKS Belchatow win. For me, the away win at 6/5 is a real bargain here today!

Korona Kielce vs Wisla Krakow – away win at 17/20. Three straight defeats for Korona Kielce and the fact they they’re hosting a much better side than they actually are makes this preview look rather similar to the one above! The hosts are lacking in momentum and also have the knowledge that no side in the Ekstraklasa has conceded more goals at home this season than they have. Visitors Wisla Krakow are looking their usual dominant selves with three wins in their past four games. They’re currently top of the Ekstraklasa with four wins from five games, the only side getting the better of them being Lech Poznan. Wisla Krakow average nearly two goals per game and that looks unlikely to chance against a leaky and out-of-form Korona Kielce. Therefore, the away win at 17/20 looks something of a no-brainer today.
