Today’s secondary featured game is the Eliteserien game between Fredrikstad and Molde FK.
It’s bold to go against Fredrikstad at home due to their compact side and strong support from the fans but if anyone can win here then it’s Molde. I’ve mentioned before that I personally believe that Fredrikstad must have three key players playing for them to do well in games; Piiroja, Elyounoussi, and Borges. The latter two are extremely good attacking players in this division whereas Piiroja is a rock of a central defender with bags of experience. Aside from those three, it’s fair to observe that Fredrikstad are a rather average side. Well, the bad news for Fredrikstad is that Piiroja has left the club. Their attack is still dangerous but without Piiroja, I rate their chances of keeping a clean sheet at somewhere between zero and -1000 (cue the inevitable 0-0 draw!). Fredrikstad still have enough firepower to trouble Molde but to get a result here? I’m not so sure.
The more I see of Solskjaer’s Molde, the more I am impressed by them. Solskjaer was a clever player and now he’s a clever manager. His side attacks well, scores lots of goals, and tends to win games that way because few sides boast the offensive power that they do. They can concede goals against anyone but finding a side that can match them for goalscoring ability is difficult in Norway, if not impossible. Molde have been strong for a large portion of this season, both at home and away, and given Fredrikstad’s loss of a key centre-back as well as a big dip in their recent home form, the away win looks a bit longer than it should be here, hence my interest.
Verdict: Molde FK to win at 7/5.

My tips:
As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:
FC Minsk vs Belshina Bobriusk – home win at evens.
Although they’ve started late, Minsk are actually a good Vysshaya Liga side. My crib with them has always been not having a proper target man but their midfield is strong enough to win them games like this. Belshina fade away in the second-half of seasons due to a lack of depth and I think we’ll see more of that in the near future. Belshina are still no mugs and a tight game can be expected but with old hand Vasilyuk leading the line and ever-imposing playmaker Razin behind, you have to feel that Minsk can break through at somepoint and edge the win at good odds, especially after a highly impressive win in Novopolotsk last time out.
Verdict: FC Minsk to win at evens.
Montana vs Lokomotiv Plovdiv – away win with draw no bet at 5/6.
Despite investment, Plovdiv are yet to master the art of away wins but to be honest, I’ll be surprised to see them lose at Montana today. Montana are a decent attacking side but nothing more as they frequently concede. Plovdiv have some good players in their ranks, more than enough to do the necessary damage here. At the very least the visitors should take a draw from this game against frankly inferior opponents so the away win with draw no bet cover interests me at 5/6.
Verdict: Lokomotiv Plovdiv to win with draw no bet at 5/6.
Omonia Nicosia vs AEL Limassol – lay Omonia Nicosia at 9/5.
Risky, but worth a flutter. AEL have started well and are a pretty good side on their day. Omonia are not impressing right now as they fail to create enough chances to win a game so I’m not sure they merit such short odds, especially after their horrendous display at newly-promoted Aris Limassol. Approach with caution but x2 looks interesting here
Verdict: Lay Omonia Nicosia at 9/5.
Slovan Liberec vs Sigma Olomouc – home win at evens.
Better side, simply put. Sigma Olomouc have done fairly well against a lot of poor sides but they’re facing a side that is just better than they are today, to be honest. Liberec are always a force at home and I’ll be surprised if they don’t show that today.
Verdict: Slovan Liberec to win at evens.
Lorient vs Saint-Etienne – home win at 11/10.
Naturally, Lorient have struggled to replace Gameiro up front since PSG signed him although I have to confess that I’m quite a big fan of promising “Swiss” striker Emeghara. He’s not getting much game time right now but I’m sure he will when Lorient work out that Aliadiere is shit. Lorient have loaned promising Costa Rica attacker Campbell from Arsenal and have also brought in a few decent French attackers in pacey Quercia and Monnet-Pacquet. They’re not world-class but they’re decent at this level and it at least adds some depth to a frankly limited Lorient attack. However, their defence is as rock solid as ever and on their beloved artificial turf, I find it very hard to go against them. Saint-Etienne made two huge losses last season in top goalscorer Payet and tenacious midfielder Matuidi. They also parted company with Belgian attacking midfielder Miralles and hot striking prospect Riviere. Saint-Etienne are not a patch on what they were, subsequently, and although I’m impressed that they snapped up young Basque goalkeeper Ruffier and experienced playmaker Malbranque, this Saint-Etienne side is still lacking in midfield presence and striking options. They’re not easy to beat but Lorient at 11/10 on their own turf is well worth a flutter here, in my view.
Verdict: Lorient to win at 11/10.
