Today’s secondary featured game is the Eliteserien game between Fredrikstad and Stromsgodset.
Fredrikstad have long been a hard side to face on their own turf. It doesn’t seem to affect them that they lost a couple of key players pre-season as they’re still one of the top goalscoring sides in the Eliteserien at home. Elyounoussi is obviously the core of that attack but the experience of Valencia and the skill of Hussain have contributed and Fredrikstad do look good going forward at home. Their massive support helps them a lot and their fans don’t usually allow Fredrikstad to just give up; it’s attack and score goals or be booed, effectively! Defensively, Fredrikstad are lost without Piiroja and with absentees mounting up at the back, it’s hard to imagine Fredrikstad keeping a clean sheet against anyone this season, although they somehow managed it against Haugesund in their last home game. Still, the hosts are always good for scoring and conceding when playing at home, hence my interest.
Stromsgodset are the more dicey factor to this bet as you never know which team of theirs will show up. At home, they’re just unplayable with their relentless tenacity and attacking power. Away from home, you never really know how they’ll play. I mean, there’s only a handful of sides in the Eliteserien that could ship three goals at defensive moguls Aalesund FK and yet that’s exactly what Stromsgodset did in their last away game. That result was not only puzzling because Aalesund FK don’t have a good finisher but also because the pitch was artificial, which is the same as Stromsgodset’s at the Marienlyst so the platform was definitely there for them to do well if they felt the need. However, they are bad defensively and it will be exposed by sides with some attacking power and that’s what Stromsgodset face today. They’ve got more than enough going forward to score goals themselves, as they almost always do, and thus I expect them to contribute to my over 2.5 goals call.
Most bookies have slashed the odds on this game to 8/11 or 4/6 but happily Pinnacle have kept it out at 4/5. To me, that screams value for almost any Stromsgodset game and with the above in mind, over 2.5 goals appeals to me here.
Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 4/5.
