Ok guys, thanks very much for the support with the Bet365 link and banner clicking – it’s really good of you all! If you could please continue to do this whenever you remember then it’d be greatly appreciated, especially if placing bets at that time. Thank you!

Today’s secondary featured game is the Veikkausliiga game between VPS Vaasa and JJK Jyvaskyla. The hosts are generally hard to beat but times are difficult at VPS right now and thus the away win interets me.

VPS’ season has unsurprisingly gone downhill since Tanska got injured and given that he held the defence together, it’s hard to see them improving in the near future. Helpfully, fellow defenders Woodbine and Koskimaa return to the starting line-up, as does Koskela in midfield so VPS fans can at least bear to look at their starting line-up now. Goalscoring is still a huge problem for VPS, however, and as good as they are from set pieces, you can’t help but feel that it’s in games like this where they’ll be outclassed and outscored. I wouldn’t be surprised to see VPS capitalise on JJK’s atypical poor defending but I’d be surprised to see them hold it without Tanska. Games in Vaasa are always hard for the away side but bear in mind that they’ve scored more than once in two out of eight home games this season and you’ll see what I mean.

I like visitors JJK Jyvaskyla a lot because they play attractive attacking football and they do it very well. Their midfield is amongst the best in the Veikkausliiga, in my view – that’s what underpins their success in scoring goals with Virtanen, Gruborovics, and Manninen generally tearing through sides at will. The return of Wusu up front has given JJK an even more threatening attack and with old Hyyrynen as an alternative, JJK definitely have a very strong attack no matter who they field. JJK aren’t a great away side, unfortunately – they occasionally get rather complacent and lazy – but the odds are good enough to give them a chance here because they’re the only side likely to go on a goalscoring spree here.

If VPS had a full team then I’d probably avoid this one but JJK at 7/5 is a bet I’ll almost always take given how potent their attack is. They are more than capable of scoring enough goals to win this game so the away win is my call here.

Verdict: JJK Jyvaskyla to win at 7/5.

Friday’s Picks

My tips:

As ever, below are my recommended value tips for today in no particular order:

KuPS Kuopio vs MyPa Anjalankoski  – home win at 7/5.

This tip follows a similar vein to the game at the top of the page today in the sense that I cannot resist the odds when I compare the quality of the two teams.

KuPS are having problems with star striker Nwakaeme and subsequently it’s anyone’s guess as to whether he plays or not with moves abroad being constantly linked to the talented attacker. However, let’s not jump ship with KuPS here – it’s not just one man that makes them a good team. No, they have Ilo, Venelainen, and ex-HJK Helsinki striker Roiha to call upon now and there’s definitely goals in that attack, especially with young duo Udah and Williams doing well this season. KuPS haven’t had a good campaign due to a sluggish start and poor defending but their attack is one that should be feared and odds of 7/5 don’t respect that attacking power anywhere near enough, in my view, irrespective of their poor form.

MyPa are a hard-working side and may even scrape a draw from this game given how much they’ve improved over the past couple of months but come on, seriously – MyPa away from home without Aho or Okkonen in their team? I can’t take them seriously like that. I gave them a shot at home to a struggling TPS Turku in their last game and yet despite dominating the ball, they still did nothing with it. They’re not dangerous enough in attack, they’re missing their best midfielder, and they’re missing one of their best defenders. These are long-term injuries, admittedly, but they’re still notable absentees for the visitors today and it’s going to cost them when they play good sides like KuPS, in my view.

The onus is on KuPS here, of course. If they don’t show up then you can expect a boring draw because that’s what MyPa love to do away from home – nullify their hosts. However, look what happens when KuPS turn it on – their 4-4 draw at Inter Turku, their 4-4 draw with JJK Jyvaskyla last match, their 2-2 draw in Aland against IFK Mariehamn. As I’ve said earlier – defending is KuPS’ problem but MyPa lack firepower so this is the perfect opportunity for KuPS to bounce back and claim three points. Either way, given the quality difference, 7/5 is a very generous price for the home win today, in my view.

Verdict: KuPS Kuopio to win at 7/5.
