Today’s secondary featured game is the Superligaen game in Denmark between Silkeborg and OB Odense. The hosts still have hopes of a UEFA Europa League place whereas OB Odense are still battling to stay in the Superligaen so there’s plenty to play for today.

Silkeborg are very hit-and-miss, unfortunately. If they actually concentrated their efforts into being a consistent side then they’d be a pretty good side, in my view. They’ve got lots of attacking talent, most of which is underrated, and they have plenty of courage to boot. There aren’t many defences that can handle the finesse of Estonian striker Saag, nor the relentless energy of Faroese international Holst, and this is without even looking at experenced Henrik Pedersen, Jesper Bach, and German forward Pourie! Risgard is having a good season and due to the options that Silkeborg have up front, they usually tend to score goals. Their defence is somewhat vulnerable from time to time and their midfield occasionally lacks some creativity but as a unit, I do like Silkeborg. Well, that’s applicable only if they work as hard as they usually do against big sides!

Visitors OB Odense are just a horrible side right now. There are a few of these type of sides lingering around the foot of the Superligaen table at the moment but at least HB Koge and Lyngby are battling but are just short on quality and experience. OB literally have no excuse whatsoever when we consider that they’re a top three side on paper. Their heads have dropped, their high-earning players have disappeared, and they’re conceding copious amounts of goals. OB are still without a win in the Superligaen in 2012, losing a shocking seven out of their last nine games. It’s like OB have given up completely, which is just ridiculous. It makes sense that they’re strugging to score goals now that star striker Utaka has moved on but it’s not like nobody else could score goals for OB. Things haven’t improved for OB ahead of this game either, to be honest, as some of their core players missing today. Djemba-Djemba is the battleaxe of their midfield but he’s missing today and OB don’t have a good replacement for him. Defensive lynchpin Reginiussen misses out too, which leaves a gaping hole in the centre of OB’s defence. The experienced Hans Henrik Andreasen is also on the sidelines and with Djemba-Djemba out too, OB are left with a ruined midfield, especially with squad rotation midfielder Traore out too! Let’s see, who else is there – ah yes, right-back Mendy. Although more of an asset in surging forward with his pace and direct running, Mendy’s absence is yet another problem that OB don’t look capable of dealing. In my eyes, OB are left with a shell of a good team and will have to play a lot of players out of position today, which is never good.

For me, there’s value on the home win at evens with the above in mind, even though this is the kind of game where Silkeborg will have one of their “blips” and not bother showing up!

Verdict: Sikeborg to win at evens.
