Steaua Bucharest vs CFR Cluj

Steau Bucharest vs CFR Cluj is a much bigger game than the league placing of either side suggests. It’s a rivarly, a rivalry that has only emerged over recent years as CFR Cluj were heavily invested in financially to become the force they are today. I think it’s fair to say that the national club side of Romania is Steaua Bucharest i.e. “the people’s champion”. Similar scenarios are developing all around Europe and it’s quite interesting to see. Aside from this, CFR Cluj pipped Steaua Bucharest to the post on the final day of last season to win the Romanian Liga. Couple that with the recent issues of Steaua Bucharest and their chairmen, and it’s fair to say you have a riled and revengeful side in the hosts. However, don’t reckon beyond the talents of the visitors because they have it in abundance. To put it briefly – I expect a somewhat violent and passionate game between these two clubs with a result that doesn’t really benefit either of them, 1-1 being my call.

Also, a quick shout-out to the Russian Division 1 game today between Luch-Energiya Vladivostok and SKA Energiya Khabarovsk. Unless I’m much mistaken, this is the furthest east rivarly that exists in “European” professional football! Good luck checking that out too!!
