Today’s free tip is in the Faroese Meistaradeildin game between Suduroy and TB Tvoroyri.
After a short mid-summer break, both sides have arrived back with plenty of fire in their bellies as they seek to avoid the drop. EB/Streymur are already out of the picture but AB Argir are in with a chance of staying up so both Suduroy and TB Tvoroyri need to keep picking up points to ensure that they don’t get dragged into the mire. I’d be shocked if TB Tvoroyri went down, to be fair – they’ve been one of the hardest sides to beat in the Meistaradeildin this season – but Suduroy haven’t picked up enough points so this is a big game for them.
TB Tvoroyri have won both previous meetings between these two sides earlier in the season. However, Suduroy have come back from their break and looked absolutely outstanding in their two nightmarish games against the Torshavn heavyweights, getting a point off mighty HB Torshavn and narrowly losing against B36 Torshavn, neither of which Suduroy were outplayed in. Suduroy deserved to get more from both games but didn’t manage it because they were taking on two of the best clubs in the Faroe Islands. Effectively, they’ve scored points off teams that are far above them so I don’t see why they can’t repeat that feat today.
TB Tvoroyri have done very well this season, all things considered. However, one thing that I feel the bookies have overlooked is that their ability stems in keeping sides out rather than in actually winning games. Bjornsson and Magnusson have helds things together really well at the back and despite Gudlaugsson having a young squad at his disposal, they’ve demonstrated outstanding maturity and composure when it’s come to taking on superior sides. That makes them very, very hard to beat at this level, particularly with their natural organisation and consistency. They’re not a free-flowing attacking side, though – that’s what stops them from taking more points against weaker sides. Consider that they’ve won just two away games in the Meistaradeildin this season despite possessing a strong defence and you’ll see what I mean, particularly as one of those games was against doomed EB/Streymur. Again, they’re not at all easy to beat but they find games like these harder than they should, to be blunt.
As long as Suduroy keep Adu relatively shackled and both Poulsens work well with Toronjadze, I don’t believe that Suduroy will lose this one. They need to take their chances better but they are creating them and they’re playing with real belief and togetherness at the moment. Better attacking sides than TB Tvoroyri have struggled massively against them lately so I believe that there’s value in giving Suduroy a +0.5 handicap at 5/6.
Verdict: Suduroy to win with +0.5 handicap at 5/6.
