Today’s secondary featured game is the Gambrinus Liga game between Sigma Olomouc and Viktoria Zizkov.
Sigma Olomouc should simply have too much for their opponents today. At home, Sigma Olomouc are a reliable side – it’s on the road where we have to be careful with them. However, they’re hosting a Viktoria Zizkov side that is patchy at best today and thus they really should make it count here. Schulmeister and Varadi are far from great but with Marek Heinz behind them they should have more than enough to beat a Viktoria Zizkov side that is effectively already Druha Liga material. The visitors are suffering with tremendous financial problems and have had to loan virtually half of their current squad in over the winter transfer window, hence their lack of cohesion and quality. Subsequently, I expect Viktoria Zizkov to be whipping boys of the Gambrinus Liga for some weeks to come yet and a trip to Olomouc is never an easy one. Therefore, my call is for the hosts to beat the -1.5 handicap today.
Verdict: Sigma Olomouc to beat the -1.5 handicap at 10/11.

Newcastle United vs Sunderland – home win at 11/10.
It doesn’t matter how good Sunderland are; they always seem to lose against Newcastle United in the derby. Helpfully, there’s more than superstition in this particular call! Newcastle have two very good strikers in Cisse and Ba; they’re both real handfuls. With Cabaye supporting them both and Gutierrez powering down the flank, Newcastle finally have some terrific attacking options and it’s shown a lot this season. They look a bit of a joke at the back when either Coloccini or Taylor are out so Taylor’s continual absence is doing a lot of damage at the back. Still, Newcastle give their all in front of their faithful fans and that should help them make it count today. Sunderland have O’Neill at the helm and that may count in their favour. However, they’ve got defensive issues of their own which aren’t helped by the injury to Wes Brown. A trip to West Bromwich Albion showed Sunderland that they’re not as immortal as they felt that they were as they were humbled 4-0 in the Midlands. That’s two consecutive defeats now so the honeymoon period for Sunderland is drawing to a rapid close. It’s time for Sunderland to produce consistent displays and I don’t think they have the defence available to them today to allow them to do that. With the above in mind, taking the hosts to emerge victorious appeals to me at 11/10.
Verdict: Newcastle United to win at 11/10.
Bursaspor vs Karabukspor – home win at 4/5.
Bursaspor have been very wasteful in front of goal this season due to a lack of quality. The Super Lig doesn’t require the best strikers in the world but they’ve never replaced Miller or Sercan Yildrim adequately so Bursaspor really struggle to score goals. However, they’re hosting a Karabukspor side that very nearly drew against Ankaragucu’s kids lately thanks to some shambolic defending and if they defend like that in this game then it’ll take more than a dubious penalty to save them. Bursaspor should have ample opportunities to win this one and we all know how good they are riding out a win when they have a lead and thus I expect them to win this game.
Verdict: Bursaspor to win at 4/5.
