Today’s secondary featured game is the Serie A derby between Internazionale and AC Milan.
As if this derby wasn’t important enough already, it’s a must-win game for both sides as Internazionale are fighting for a UEFA Champions League place and AC Milan are fighting to win the title.
Derbies are notoriously hard to predict for obvious reasons but I’m surprised to see Milan at evens for this one; I genuinely thought that they’d be a little shorter today. It’s not that Internazionale aren’t a good side because they absolutely are. The problem Internazionale have is their lack of cohesion, lack of consistency from a managerial perspective, and lack of composure on the ball. I mean, seriously – when was the last time Internazionale had conceded so many goals in Serie A? Only Parma outside of the bottom five had conceded more than they have this seaso, which just isn’t good enough. Again, Interazionale have the quality to match or even better Milan on their day but with half of their squad unsure whose shirt they’ll be wearing next season and limited organisation, not to mention a lack of belief, you have to feel that this will be a disappointing derby for Internazionale.
Of course, that’s only applicable if Milan themselves show up. To be fair, though, there couldn’t be a game this season that Milan are more motivated for when you consider the position that they’re in and the opponent whom they’re facing. Milan have looked a bit tired in recent weeks but those feelings tend to disappear on derby day. Milan enter this game on the back of a 2-0 win against Atalanta Bergamo whilst Juventus were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at home against Lecce following an uncharacteristic Buffon mistake. That mistake gives Milan hope, though, and I expect them to approach this game with renewed vigour as a result. The absence of Thiago Silva continues to make Milan’s defence susceptible. However, with most other players available to them, it’s fair to observe that Milan are well-placed to get a much-needed result against their bitter rivals today.
Again, this is a huge derby so don’t go all in or anything stupid like that. However, I would certainly consider taking AC Milan to win this one at evens as they look a far more organised and efficient side than their close rivals right now.
Verdict: AC Milan to win at evens.
