Today’s free tip is in the Swedish Allsvenskan encounter between Mjallby Solvesborg and BK Hacken Goteborg.
Mjallby Solvesborg’s style of late has been rather cautious. It’s early days, but I’m inclined to believe that it suits them better than their more adventurous approach. Against Ostersunds FK – and Malmo FF in the Svenska Cupen – they looked rather smart, Mjallby Solvesborg, holding their opponents at arm’s length. They were waiting to see if they’d break them down, which seldom happened. That’s two different teams, by the way – Malmo FF tend to dominate games with top-drawer players. Ostersunds FK counter-attack with speed. That approach of Mjallby Solvesborg’s worked in both though. Why not again today?
They’ve got an attack that can threaten without the team being in the game too. Batanero can make something happen from nowhere, and Ogbu knows how to patrol the line. Perhaps Mjallby Solvesborg have stumbled across a better way of doing things, bearing in mind their limitations, and the quality of most Allsvenskan sides. They’ve impressed me against two teams that contribute very different threats lately. I’ve seen nothing from BK Hacken Goteborg’s attack this season to suggest that this match will differ.
It seems to me that BK Hacken Goteborg prefer to play against teams that are prepared to come at them. With space, their attackers can work some magic from time to time, particularly young Irandust, who is bizarrely still in the Allsvenskan despite impressing for two out of the last three seasons. When it comes to breaking teams down though, BK Hacken Goteborg struggle. They really struggle, actually. I don’t know how they thought they’d get through this season without a Paulinho, but they seem to be attempting it.
Instead of a potential title push, BK Hacken Goteborg would now be lucky to get a UEFA Europa League place, in my view. Their defence looks solid enough; I’ve no gripes there. None in midfield either. Their attack just leaves me cold because there’s not one single jot of it that is unpredictable. I do think that signing striker Soderlund was a good move because he’s a natural finisher, but what their purported route to goal is, I honestly couldn’t say because most of their goals this season have been opportunistic rather than generated.
Ultimately, I think we’re in for a real chess battle in Solvesborg today. BK Hacken Goteborg are the better team but neither look all that convincing when it comes to consistently creating good chances, or consistently scoring goals. Therefore, I’m on under 2.5 goals here.
Verdict: Under 2.5 goals at 4/5.
