My secondary featured game today is the Chisinau derby in Moldova between Zimbru and Dacia. Normally, entering derbies is a risky affair and I suppose this one could be the same but I have my reservations.
Dacia Chisinau beat rivals Zimbru Chisinau 1-0 twice last season, once at home and once away from home. There’s nothing particularly unusual about that, I suppose, but the Zimbru fans view it differently. Rumour has it that Adlan Shishanov – owner of Dacia Chisinau – owns Zimbru Chisinau as well but that is kept well under wraps for obvious reasons. Zimbru fans stated that their two losses against Dacia last season looked fixed and that wouldn’t be a great surprise as Dacia are the better side and Zimbru are effectively their feeder club. Dacia are the reigning champions and the only threat to their title are wealthy Sheriff Tiraspol. Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Zimbru work very hard against Sheriff Tiraspol but make the odd “mistake” against Dacia Chisinau, shall we say!
I don’t get involved with match fixing – it’s a very dodgy area for varying reasons. However, there’s value on Dacia to win this one at 7/5 today with the above in mind whether it comes in or not. They are the better side and I expect Zimbru to “let” them win it.
Verdict: Dacia Chisinau to win at 8/5.

Ekranas Panevezys vs Zalgiris Vilnius – home win at evens.
Almost everyone in Lithuania struggles to score against Zalgiris Vilnius due to their solid defence and defensive tactics. However, the one side that usually manages to break through is reigning champions Ekranas Panevezys. This is the first of three “must win” games for Ekranas with a trip to Marijampole following this game and a tie with Hapoel Tel-Aviv following that game. Ekranas haven’t been at their best lately but they’re still the best side in Lithuania by some distance and it should show here today. I still can’t fathom why Zalgiris are above Suduva in the table, to be honest, but football is like that sometimes I guess. I’ll be surprised if Ekranas don’t manage to beat a side that is a class or two below them as Ekranas have the firepower to break their resistance and tend to show it too, winning six out of their last seven meetings with Zalgiris including a 0-1 win in Vilnius earlier this season.
Verdict: Ekranas Panevezys to win at evens.
Vitoria Setubal vs Pacos de Ferreira – away win with draw no bet at evens.
The activities of these two clubs pre-season makes this one look interesting today with reliable Pacos de Ferreira keeping the same squad as last year whilst Vitoria Setubal were forced into selling the likes of Zeca, Valdomiro, and Regula. Pacos are a good side and do have the quality advantage between these two sides with Setubal’s precarious financial position playing a huge part here. Pacos de Ferreira have kept a lot of their good players from last season and with the likes of Michel in their ranks, they should be a decent side yet again this season. They’re the epitome of cohesion and against hosts in disarray, the away win with draw no bet is worth a punt today, in my view.
Verdict: Pacos de Ferreira to win with draw no bet at evens.
