Wisla Krakow vs Polonia Warsaw – over 2 goals at 4/5.

Today’s featured game is the Ekstraklasa game between Wisla Krakow and Polonia Warsaw.

In previous years, this would have been a clash of the titans but as it currently stands, neither side are particularly impressing me. Polonia Warsaw have lost a lot of good players due to their chairman spitting his dummy out (as usual) and Wisla have sacked good boss Maaskant for reasons beyond my comprehension so they’re trying to adapt under a new manager. All in all, this is a bit of an unknown game from a 1×2 perspective.

However, I do like the idea of there being goals in this game. With Genkov spear-heading the Wisla attack with Malecki and Melikson either side of him, Wisla boast one of the most potent attacking threesomes in the whole of Poland and it’s rare that they won’t score any goals as a result. They’re normally stable at the back too but it’s hard to see that happening tonight with Chavez, Jaliens, and Czekaj all ruled out for this one through injury, which leaves Wisla’s defence looking makeshift at best. They’re still adapting to life under Moskal and thus their games are generally low-scoring as they play a cautious game but with so many defenders out, I see a real possibility for Wisla both scoring and conceding in this one.

Polonia Warsaw have gone a bit haywire lately with goal-filled games as they look to push on toward the top of the Ekstraklasa. They still have a good squad, Polonia, although it seems to be Albanian hitman Cani doing all of the damage with ex-Bayern Munich striker Sikorski struggling to find the net. Playmaker Bruno is out for this one but Jez is creative enough to make things happen. Bonin’s absence does make midfield a problem for Polonia today, which should mean that they won’t have as much grasp on the game at Reymonta as they’d like, and Polonia tend to make a mess of things when they don’t get it their own way. Their crazy chairman will go mad at any kind of half-assed display so you can expect a nervy Polonia display here, in my view. They’ve got the players to trouble Wisla’s backline but should also concede themselves.

For me, 4/5 on over 2 goals is well worth a punt here. The odds are decidedly generous given how important Wisla’s defensive absentees are and I think we’ll see a few goals here as a result.

Verdict: Over 2 goals at 4/5.
