General Information

We aim to give you the best possible information before each game. However, the moment the game starts, anything can happen, ranging from red cards to snow storms to pitch invasions. We can only prepare you for so much; it's up to you to learn how to develop yourself as to know when to jump ship if things aren't going as they should.

Pay attention to the odds provided for each tip. Be aware that the longer the odds are, the less chance there is of it coming in. Don't lean toward backing the bankers containing teams you've heard of or selections at longer odds because you trust the team more or if you see the pound signs flashing before your eyes. Sometimes bankers won't win, try to use the previews to steer you toward the right selection to make rather than taking the quick/lazy way.

Please understand that every single tip has the capacity to win, push, or lose. We aim to find good value bets (probability vs odds) as our focal area.

Atalanta Bergamo vs Spezia

KO: (UK time)

In order to keep their European dreams alive, Atalanta need to beat Spezia. The visitors have dug their heels in a lot of late but can’t win enough so relegation looks quite possible for them. Atalanta have been playing quite well of late, and should have enough at home to seal the deal here.

Verdict: Atalanta Bergamo to win at 9/25.

Banker

Ludogorets Razgrad vs Beroe

KO: (UK time)

The quality gap should be too big here. Ludogorets Razgrad need to win, Beroe don’t travel well, and the home team have just claimed a massive derby win against CSKA Sofia to put them top of the A PFG – failing to win here would make that result pointless. Ergo, anything but a home win would surprise me.

Verdict: Ludogorets Razgrad to win at 7/50.

Banker

Manchester City vs West Ham United

KO: (UK time)

City are firing on all cylinders at the moment with three trophies very much in their sights. It’s difficult to imagine anyone standing in their way whilst they’re playing as well as they are, even a West Ham United that has mostly enjoyed their best section of their campaign in recent times.

Verdict: Manchester City to win at 1/5.

Banker

Milan vs Cremonese

KO: (UK time)

Although Milan are suffering from a touch of fixture congestion at the moment, they should have enough in the tank to defeat Cremonese here. They’re in for a bit of a battle, I’m sure, but have enough firepower to do the business.

Verdict: Milan to win at 33/100.

Banker

Cerro Porteno vs Bolivar La Paz

KO: (UK time)

Cerro Porteno are natural goal-scorers, particularly at home. They don’t always have the work ethic to do the defensive side of things well but they do score goals. Hosting a team that is going to find it a nightmare to cope with the altitude difference, especially a team from Bolivia, should be something of a dream for the Paraguayan heavyweights.

Verdict: Cerro Porteno to win at 2/5.

Banker

Atletico Mineiro vs Alianza Lima

KO: (UK time)

The quality gap is too big here. Atletico Mineiro do seem to prefer to play against teams that come at them more than Alianza Lima are likely to but I still expect the Belo Horizonte outfit to find a way to win it; they’ve got too many match-winners not to.

Verdict: Atletico Mineiro to win at 11/50.

Featured game

VfB Stuttgart vs Eintracht Frankfurt

KO: (UK time)

This should be an interesting semi-final because neither team are flying at the moment. VfB Stuttgart are in a better place mentally in the sense that they’re keep their heads above water in the relegation battle but Eintracht Frankfurt are the better team, and also have a chance of getting players like Lindstrom, Kolo Muani, and Ndicka back, all of which would be sizeable boosts.

I’m not sure I agree with the bookies making Stuttgart favourites here, though. They’re at home, but is this game really at the front of their minds when they’ve got a do-or-die match against Hertha Berlin coming three days from now? I have to believe that staying in the Bundesliga is going to be Stuttgart’s priority. Winning the DFB Pokal would be amazing but after their depressing spell in the Bundesliga 2 before, Stuttgart need to prioritise staying up. I’m not saying they’ll throw this game; far from it. However, let’s just say that it wouldn’t surprise me if they made a couple of changes for this one to give players like Endo or Fuhrich a quick breather.

They’re unbeaten in five games now, Stuttgart, so they’re in a good place mentally. They keep working hard, believing in themselves, and scoring goals – ex-TSG Hoffenheim boss Hoeness deserves a lot of credit for what he’s done. I have been more impressed with his work at Stuttgart than I ever was at his last club. They’ve given themselves a good shot at avoiding the drop, and they’re worthy of being respected because of it.

Quality-wise though, I’m not sure that they have what it takes to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt tonight. You need to be patient, organised, and clinical. The latter they’ve been, but the others – I’m not convinced. They seem to require intensity and an open game to showcase their talents at the moment, and that’s the last thing that Eintracht Frankfurt will give them. They’re not a team I’d take lightly, but there’s quite a bit about this game that doesn’t do much for me with regard to Stuttgart.

Eintracht Frankfurt seem to do better when the heat is on though – that’s one reason I like their chances here. They may not have been at their best lately but there’s not an awful lot awaiting them for doing so. It would make sense to me if they prioritised the DFB Pokal, which they’ve got a realistic chance of winning. Having a tactical specialist like Glasner in charge whilst having some really good individuals to call upon is a real advantage in such situations.

Again, it’s likely that star attacker Kolo Muani will return as well as powerful defender Ndicka. Lindstrom has an outside chance of returning but they’re less optimistic about that. Should the former duo return, then Eintracht Frankfurt should be able to get back to their best rather quickly, in my view. I think they’ll find the combative and open nature of Stuttgart problematic at times but the more space you give Eintracht Frankfurt, the more dangerous they become so I still don’t see them losing it.

Sure, I’ll have less confidence if Kolo Muani and Ndicka both fail – in that eventuality, I’d probably give it a miss. Assuming that they return though, then the visitors should be able to both manage this game and defeat their opponents. Stuttgart just can’t defend, and Eintracht Frankfurt are the kind of team that can capitalise upon that.

Therefore, my view is that backing the away win with draw no bet cover is a good value pick at 23/20.

Verdict: Eintracht Frankfurt to win with draw no bet at 23/20.

Remaining thoughts

Note

The "remaining thoughts" section is there to be a rough guide in case you want to get involved in games we haven't tipped. It is not there to tell anybody to back specific scorelines, or to guarantee that "2-2" games will go over 2.5 goals, for example. Ian lists what he believes to be the most likely outcome, and this is based on his assessment as to which way each game will develop. However, a "remaining thoughts" game listed with a 2-2 scoreline may have only just edged out a 0-0 scoreline in terms of probability because each game can develop in different ways.
