Today’s secondary featured game is the Urvalsdeild game between KR Reykjavik and FH Hafnarfjordur. I’d argue that there isn’t a bigger derby in Icelandic football so be wary with your stakes here.

Nonetheless, I have to fancy KR to win this one at 11/10. They did the job perfectly well in the Super Cup, beating FH 2-0 at the start of the season, and a similar scoreline today wouldn’t surprise. KR Reykjavik were good in the pre-season Cup whereas FH Hafnarfjordur were rather predictable, in my view, and they have been for a while now.

KR lost striker Baldvinsson to Halmstad pre-season, which was a blow. He was arguably a better finisher than Finnbogason although Finnbogason is just huge; you can’t defend against someone like him if the service is good enough. Aside from the sale of Baldvinsson, KR have remained largely entact and they’ve encouraged me with their ability to score goals this season without Baldvinsson although I’m still uncertain over their attempts at defending. Still, KR are very much an all-or-nothing side and I can’t imagine a game that they’d give more in this season than this one. KR have won their last two home games against FH in all competitions and I think that they’re good enough to do the same here.

There’s not a lot between the two sides, it has to be said. However, FH are slow starters to each season and they look more predictable than ever. They’re not easy to score against, which is testament to the large amount of experience that they possess in the likes of Gunnleifsson and Bjarnason, for example. However, more and more youngsters are being drafted into this club and it could even be observed that FH are undergoing something of a transitional period with a future centred around the likes of emerging hot prospect Sverrison in midfield. FH’s biggest problem is not having a designated goalscorer, though. Ex-Bolton attacker Snorrason is the closest that they actually have with Gudnason somewhat hit-and-miss. They’re really missing their ex-attacker Vilhjalmsson, who joined Start Kristiansand pre-season. FH can sporadically produce a good display and they’re good at defending but they’re not a patch on what they used to be and I think that KR can demonstrate that today.

I expect KR to score goals here and if they do then I’m not sure how FH will respond. With better strikers in the Hafnarfjordur corner I’d not touch the game. With that attack, though, I really fancy KR to beat their bitter rivals, even with their half-assed attempts at defending.

Verdict: KR Reykjavik to win at 11/10.
