Welshpool Town vs Aberystwyth Town

Today’s featured game is the Welsh Premier League game between Welshpool Town and Aberystwyth Town. Hosts Welshpool Town have had a dismal season so far and find themselves fifteenth in the table and don’t look likely of changing their ways anytime soon. Visitors Aberystwyth Town continue to be a dangerous side to play against by currently occupying fourth place in the table and enjoy playing some good football.

Welshpool Town enter this game on the back of four straight defeats. They’ve already lost eleven out of seventeen games this season and have won just three times along the way. They’ve lost four out of six home games this season and have only managed one win at home, which just isn’t good enough. They don’t concede an above average number of goals at home but they do have real difficulty in scoring them as they’re currently the second-worst side in the division for scoring at home, a record bettered only by Newi Cefn Druids. Welshpool have scored three in their last four games but have conceded a hefty twelve goals along the way, an average of three goals conceded per game. To put it bluntly, Welshpool simply aren’t playing well enough to merit anything from this game today so I’m inclined to doubt that they’ll be able to.

Visitors Aberystwyth Town are a tricky customer, particularly when playing away from home. Only Llanelli have won as many away games as Aberystwyth have this season with five wins in nine games. Aberystwyth’s strength is not conceding goals as they’ve conceded less than most other Welsh Premier League sides on the road this season, which should suit them nicely against a misfiring Welshpool. Aberystwyth have won three out of their last three games so carry strong momentum into this game, averaging scoring two goals per game along the way. Aberystwyth have been very convincing this season and despite them not being part of the “big three” in the Premier League, I’m still confident that they’ll have a very good season this year.

With the polar opposite statistics mentioned above, it’s hard to see anything but an away win here today at good value too. It may also be worth looking at taking Aberystwyth to win to nil as they’ve done that in their last game against a tricky Haverfordwest County and also because Welshpool don’t score many goals. Just food for thought!
