Yeni Malatyaspor may have only just been promoted to the Super Lig but don’t be fooled – they’ve made some good signings pre-season. That won’t guarantee them a spot in the Super Lig next season but as they demonstrated against Osmanlispor last weekend, they’re not simply there to make up the numbers this season.

So who’ve they brought in? Well, to start with, Dia from AS Nancy-Lorraine joined to bring pace and trickery. He’s played for Fenerbahce before so he knows the league well enough to be useful straightaway. They also signed Dutch forward Barazite from FC Utrecht and French full-back Cissokho from Aston Villa. All three aid their attacking game significantly, and with options like Boutaib, Dening, Pereira, and Yildirim already in their squad, I am not at all surprised that they’re scoring goals easily.

Defensively, they look weak, though. They’ve panic-bought Ecuadorian defender Mina from River Plate recently but it’s just not enough. Most Super Lig teams can’t defend; that’s a given. However, a defence like Yeni Malatyaspor’s simply invites opponents to get at them because they lack stability, strength, organisation, and consistency. They’re going to be involved in plenty of high-scoring games this season, I am sure.

Antalyaspor are not so different from their hosts. They obviously have a lot more money, and thus their match-winners are better than Yeni Malaytaspor’s. However, they’re just as bad at the back so anything is possible as far as they are concerned. They signed Swiss centre-back Djourou to be their leader and although I recognise that he’s a decent centre-back, he’s no leader. Besides, he’s missed their first two games of the season.

It’s in attack where Antalyaspor’s mega rich owner wantonly flings his money, and they’ve attracted some fine personnel as a result. Eto’o was one of the first to join Antalyaspor a few years ago, and he’s still there now because he has composure in front of goal, which is rarer than you might think in the Super Lig. They’ve also signed Moroccan attacker El-Kabir and a whole host of Brazilians over the past few years like Maicon, Charles, Sandro, and Chico to name a few. Their most impressive acquisitions were Menez and Nasri, though. Menez is a wonderful player; too good for this level – if they can keep him fit. Nasri has a temper on him so he’ll be tested intensely in the Super Lig by players that love to wind one another up. However, when it comes to class and creativity, those two are amongst the best in the country; no questions asked.

You could be forgiven for expecting a good campaign for Antalyaspor this season, actually. Eto’o’s job is very easy now and despite the lack of team spirit in this Antalyaspor squad, I rate their attack very, very highly. They’re going to score and concede plenty of goals this season, as per usual, and that should not change today.

Antalyaspor don’t tend to travel well, and the home team have more cohesion than they do, which is why the odds on the home win are dropping. However, I’m not interested in the 1×2 market; it’s a complete minefield here. I do like over 2.5 goals, though – I can’t see this game ending without that coming in.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 19/20.
