The team that have conceded the most Superligaen goals this season are hosting Denmark’s most in-form team. Conclusion? I think anything but an away win would be a surprise here.
Are Brondby going to do enough to clear the -1 Asian Handicap? I believe so. Silkeborg have a reasonable squad this season but aren’t performing properly. They’re lucky that FC Helsingfor are so weak, really. Still, Silkeborg are strong at home – only the top four have won more than they have on their own patch. That’s something to bear in mind for future reference because Silkeborg are a bit better than what the Superligaen table shows, if only on paper.
Unfortunately for Silkeborg, their reasonably impressive attack is being massively overshadowed by their shoddy defence. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not hard to find teams in the Superligaen that concede plenty of goals because the quality gap is generally quite minimal. However, Silkeborg look really poor at the back, frequently giving sloppy goals away. They make FC Nordsjaelland look cool and composed at the back – let me put it to you that way!
Some teams in Denmark will capitalise on their consistently abject defending; some teams won’t. To me, Brondby very much fall into the former of those two categories because they look absolutely ruthless. The Zealand tide has turned really quickly with Brondby dominating that island now rather than FC Copenhagen. They recently won the derby at Parken, and I can’t even remember the last time they lost a game. Brondby look the real deal at the moment.
Helpfully, Brondby are not competing in Europe at the moment so they’re fresh. German boss Zorniger is getting under his team’s skin very easily, which helps motivate them. Still, it’s hard to call Brondby’s performances “polished” because they’re not. The reason they’re drubbing everybody in sight is because their attack is phenomenal.
Personally, I didn’t think they’d improve upon their attack of last season with Wilczek, Mukhtar, and Pukki running the show. However, they’ve added Kliment, Tibbling, and Halimi, which is basically taking the piss really, because they’ve added a lot of quality. Frankly, Tibbling and Halimi are too good for the Superligaen. Basically, Brondby now have three excellent creators that are too good for this level, and three good strikers, one of which – Pukki – should be playing at a higher level. I don’t know how they’ve got to this position but credit must be given for it. They look very impressive indeed in the final third, and I cannot imagine how Silkeborg are going to stop them here.
Even if Silkeborg score – and they might well do – I expect Brondby to score enough goals to clear the -1 Asian Handicap today.
Verdict: Brondby to beat the -1 Asian Handicap at 4/5.
