Today’s free tip is in the Bundesliga 2 encounter between Paderborn 07 and Dynamo Dresden.
Paderborn 07 are having a lot of fun this season. They’re preaching from the book of Holstein Kiel, and they’re barely skipping a beat along the way. The name of the game is attacking football, and Paderborn 07 are doing it seriously well for a team that, on paper, is rather restricted. There are some good players in their squad (e.g. Ghanaian attacker Tekpetey, who returns from suspension for this game) but in general this squad should not be capable of playing as impressively as Paderborn 07 have been.
What I like the most about newly-promoted Paderborn 07 is how hard they fight though. This team has never readily accepted defeat, unlike other Bundesliga 2 outfits I could name. No matter how difficult the task, Paderborn 07 give everything they’ve got. Sure, the home team has flaws, especially when it comes to defending, but their offensive power is far stronger than most people anticipated this season. Adapting to life in the Bundesliga 2 may not be all that challenging but to remain so effective offensively for such a lengthy duration of time has seriously impressed me. Assuming Paderborn 07 continue to be as effective today, there’s no reason to doubt such a motivated and committed attacking force here.
Visitors Dynamo Dresden are struggling. Despite being one of the biggest clubs in the Bundesliga 2, they fail to act like one on the pitch. It’s got to be frustrating for their fans more than anything, really. Take this season, for example. They started it horribly, sacked Neuhaus after less than a month, gave Fiel one game in charge as interim boss, and then replaced him with Walpurgis. Now, when Walpurgis arrived, their tactical approach to games became very good very swiftly. They were outsmarting teams that were better than them, recording results their quality level should not have allowed them to. It was a good time for the Eastern Germany outfit.
However, the “honeymoon” period wore off and Dynamo Dresden now look horribly average, yet again. Defensively, they look seriously sluggish again, which is unlikely to improve with key Swedish defender Wahlqvist absent for this game. Offensively, they look decidedly toothless too, which doesn’t help. Only Kone seems to have any clue what he’s doing but he isn’t anything special either. If it wasn’t for captain Ebert, I think they’d be a lot worse off at the moment, Dynamo Dresden, because he leads by example. This team is seriously lacking in quality though, and with their tactics looking quite weak of late, I don’t really see how they hope to contain an intimidating and confident Paderborn 07.
I don’t doubt that Dynamo Dresden have it in their locker to surprise their hosts today but they’re not showing it at the moment and they’d need to do so for the entire game, which I don’t see them being capable of. The absence of Wahlqvist only cements my belief that Paderborn 07 will win this game by simply scoring more goals than their opponents so my tip is to back the home win for plucky entertainers Paderborn 07.
Verdict: Paderborn 07 to win at 4/5.
