Atletico Tucuman vs Newells Old Boys

I suspect (and hope!) yesterday was profitable guys – seems like we had some joy en mass! Cyprus were a let-down but the majority of my calls were good (I think!) so feel free to post your stories of success. Interestingly enough, I backed Holland in-play when they were 1-0 up to break the -1 goal handicap against USA. Holland later won the game 2-1 but I’ve somehow been paid out on that bet, which is hilarious because it wasn’t even the Asian handicap!

Anyway, today looks a real desert for all but the bravest or more foolish gamblers with few games to choose from and a horrible card in Argentina. I’d recommend keeping punts low if at all!

Today’s featured game is the only one that takes my fancy somewhat which is the Primera Division game between Atletico Tucuman and Newells Old Boys. Atletico Tucuman are a decent home side but a poor side in comparison to the remainder of the Primera Division and the latter is featuring far more than the former in the Clausura thus far. Newells Old Boys are yet to convince me that they’re the force that they convinced some people that they were in the Apertura but they’re playing well of late so are worthy of consideration.

Atletico Tucuman are having a lot of problems because they’re not scoring goals. They’ve never been a prolific side in this division but two goals scored in six games isn’t good enough. What side can hope to do well with an average of a goal scored every three games? Atletico Tucuman have only lost one of their three home games but they’ve not been convincing in any of their games. Atletico Tucuman’s biggest hope of late was their reliable defence but a 3-0 demolition by Lanus in their last Primera Division game soon laid waste to that idea. Atletico Tucuman are basically having a lot of problems if they can’t keep a side out and I expect that to be the case tonight.

Newells Old Boys have forgotten all about their defensive prowess shown in the Apertura in favour of a more traditionally-themed Argentinian tactic; all-out attack! Newells may be without a win on the road this season but they’ve only actually played one game so I think we can discount that statistic! Newells have scored seven goals in their last three Primera Division games so they’re on fire potency-wise. They’ve beaten a resolute Boca Juniors side, reigning champions Banfield, and drawn with an in-form Lanus side so Newells are pulling off some good results of late thanks to their attacking form. Although Newells have conceded in each of those games it’s their potency that reassures me regarding this bet. I can’t see Newells not scoring and I can’t see Atletico Tucuman scoring so the away win looks logical here.

I’m not an avid fan of the away wins in Argentina but ultimately a home side that isn’t scoring goals hosting an away side that is not only scoring goals but is also better than they are makes the away win look favourable. Newells are playing well against good opponents and Atletico Tucuman are struggling against average opponents by majority so the away win should hold value tonight.

Verdict: Newells Old Boys to win at 6/5.
