Blackpool vs Wigan Athletic
FreeToday’s featured game sees Premier League outfit Wigan Athletic travel to Championship side Blackpool. The hosts are a side I have a good deal of respect for. They make it difficult for sides to play against them, generally, particularly the bigger sides. However, another side that has earned my respect in their opening games has been Wigan Athletic under Roberto Martinez. I had Wigan Athletic down as a real struggler in the Premier League this season for various reasons but Roberto Martinez has this superb calming effect, if you will. His sides are calm, confident, and play good football, regardless of who they have and who they don’t have. Against Aston Villa they were very impressive and they played well against Manchester United despite the Premier League champions simply being more clinical on the day. Roberto Martinez has good experience of management at Championship level and knows how to beat sides. He’s the kind of manager who will make sure his side gives everything in every competition so a cup run could well be on his “to do” list. I think this will be a close game but I expect an away win overall. Taking the win at evens looks like a real bargain tonight – let’s hope they don’t fuck up like Leeds United did last night!

Arsenal vs Celtic – home win with -1.75 handicap at 5/6. Hosts Arsenal have already proven that they’re the better side from these two sides when they won 2-0 at Celtic Park. That’s something we didn’t really need convincing of, but it was still a very difficult away game. Now they’re on familiar turf and host a defensive side that will be forced to come out of their shells. I anticipate a high-scoring game and Arsenal really should break the -1.75 handicap. 5/6 on this selection is a real steal!
West Bromwich Albion vs Rotherham United – home win with -1.75 handicap at evens. I’ve been backing West Bromwich Albion all season thus far and they’ve still not let me down. They’re a strong side with good squad depth to compete on various levels. I have a good amount of respect for Rotherham United, who have also rarely let me down of late. They’re a side that should be in League One by now, in my view. After this season, I expect them to be there, too. I expect a very open game between two good sides but West Bromwich Albion simply have a better side so it shouldn’t be a great issue for them to beat the -1.75 handicap at evens.
