Today’s secondary featured game is the Serie A encounter in Brazil between Coritiba and Atletico Goianiense.
Essentially, these two sides are polar opposites. Coritiba play free-flowing attacking football whereas Atletico Goianiense prefer to defend first and attack later. You won’t find many games that Coritiba don’t score in, however, and that throws Atletico’s tactical approach into question today. With the exception of Lincoln, Coritiba don’t have any of what I would call “stars” but a team full of hard-working and talented individuals. Coritiba play “total football” despite not having the quality of the bigger Serie A sides and it’s earned them respect if nothing else. At home, they seize the initiative even more than normal and that should be enough to see them win their game today as Atletico Goianiense struggle to score goals as it is, let alone when they have to. They’ve not scored for two games now, Atletico Goianiense. In fact, they’ve not scored in three out of their four Serie A games this season and when you consider that two of those games were against newly-promoted sides, you have to fear for them this season unless they make drastic improvements. The lost of star striker Anselmo pre-season to Shanghai Shenxin and similarly midfield duo Juninho and Vitor Junior to Atletico Mineiro and Botafogo respectively has really damaged Atletico Goianiense’s attacking game and they look like sitting ducks if the side they’re facing has the necessary attacking power, which Coritiba definitely do.
For me, the home win at 4/5 is well worth a bet today as I don’t see it requiring more than a single goal for Coritiba to win this game, even with a weak defence at their disposal.
Verdict: Coritiba to win at 4/5.
