Today’s secondary featured game is the Primera Liga game between Getafe and Real Sociedad. Both sides are typical “home” sides, which lays the foundation for this bet well.
Getafe have impressed me since the turn of the year. Their results haven’t always shown it but they’ve played some good attacking football and have subsequently only failed to score in three games since arriving back from their brief winter break. Defensively, there are still question marks for Getafe and even moreso with Lopo missing today’s game. However, there’s plenty of energy in this side and lots of attacking potential and that’s what really interests me regarding Getafe. Their midfield is very strong, especially now that Pedro Leon is back from a lengthy lay-off, and the likes of Barrada have had a very good season, hence Fedor and Guiza causing so many problems up front. Getafe will most likely concede here but I do expect them to win the game.
As much as I am an Athletic Bilbao enthusiast, I do like Real Sociedad, if only for their predictability. They’re tremendous at home and vulnerable on the road, basically. They do well in front of their own fans, largely because they’re one of the few sides in this division that is capable of holding a lead. However, when they fall behind, they tend to fall apart as they don’t like breaking out from their defensive stance unnecessarily. Griezmann, Vela, and Xabi Prieto are lethal attacking assets but Agirretxe isn’t really good enough to cope on the road, usually requiring far too many chances before actually taking one, despite having a relatively good season thus far. The bad news for Real Sociedad today is that consistent centre-back Mikel Gonzalez is suspended and they don’t have a good replacement for him. Take the defence away from Real Sociedad on the road and you have got a pretty much beaten side unless Montanier becomes very bold and makes his Basque outfit attack here. If Real Sociedad do properly attack here then we could be in for a very interesting game as they’re deceptively good at it, especially with the pace that they possess. However, Real Sociedad almost never do that and thus I doubt they will here.
In a strange way, I expect a good game here between two fairly hit-and-miss sides as both possess good attacking players. However, Getafe almost always turn it on at home and Real Sociedad often disappoint. Therefore, on the back of a good win at El Madrigal against Villarreal CF, I fancy Getafe to nick this one at evens.
Verdict: Getafe to win at evens.

Dinamo Zagreb vs Hajduk Split – home win at 4/5.
Even though Dinamo Zagreb have been the better of these two sides for some years now, I fancy them to win this derby more than ever. True enough, derbies can be fatal, especially on the cards front. We saw some examples of that yesterday (e.g. Drogheda United vs Dundalk, Legia Warsaw vs Polonia Warsaw) but I feel confident that Dinamo will do the business here.
Even without the timeless Simunic at the back, Dinamo should be able to beat their lesser rivals here. Hajduk’s financial issues meant that they parted with a lot of players during the winter break and they’ve not convinced me in any of their Prva Liga games since then. Indeed, even their friendlies were poor and I can’t see things getting better for Hajduk. They really lack playmakers at the moment and I don’t see how they’ll break through a solid and dependable side like Dinamo Zagreb without some innovation which I don’t see them possessing. Their defence is dubious and as good as their finishing can be, it’s hard to see them managing to find the opportunities to showcase that against a good Dinamo Zagreb side. Although rarely particularly easy-on-the-eye or flambuoyant, Dinamo Zagreb are one of the most ruthless and well-marshalled sides in the Balkans and they’re very efficient as a result. They might not dominate this game, nor play especially well, but I expect them to win this game because the gulf between themselves and Hajduk has opened massively in the last few months. Therefore, the home win at 4/5 appeals to me a lot although as ever, I’d avoid it if the odds drop as derbies are seldom worth shorter odds than 4/5.
Verdict: Dinamo Zagreb to win at 4/5.
