Today’s featured game is the Copa Sudamericano U20 game between hosts Peru and Chile. This game is very much pivotal in deciding who goes through in the group so we should see a pretty open game here.

Peru have been very disappointing throughout this tournament although to be fair on them, they’re one of the weaker South American nations as far as football goes so it’s no great surprise. They’ve been very vulnerable defensively in this tournament and although they’ve tried to counter their opponents’ superiority in their games by choosing beneficial venues during this tournament, it’s just not worked out for them. They’ve played with heart in this tournament, as you’d expect, but they’ve still found themselves on the end of defeats in all games barring the game against Venezuela, which ended 1-1, a game which I personally think Peru should have won. Peru are scoring goals in their games so you can’t fault them there. However, the fact that they’ve conceded in every game shows you that they’re not a particularly good side and that they should be considered as one of the weaker sides in the group, which they are. However, as the final game of the group, this game has massive importance for the hosts as a win in this game could potentially correct a week of wrongs and also please the home crowd so I expect a vigilant display from Peru tonight. If they are to qualify then they’re going to need to score a lot of goals whilst winning the game so they have to attack from the start, which is good from the neutral’s perspective but bad for Peru as their defence is rather weak.

Those tactics will suit a superior Uruguay side down to the ground, in all honesty. They started the tournament a little slowly but found their groove last match with an emphatic 4-0 win against a good Chile side. Uruguay have scored in all of their games in the Sudamericano thus far and I can’t see that changing against Peru tonight. However, Uruguay don’t need to win this game. Indeed, barring a hefty defeat in this game and results going against them in the game between Chile and Venezuela, they’re already through. Therefore, I think we’ll see a more shrewd Uruguay display; a Uruguayan team that will sit back and wait for the inevitable counter-attacks as the hosts must attack them tonight. Uruguay are rather vulnerable themselves defensively, which surprises me because I rate some of their defenders. However, in attack, they’re strong and should make it count in this game so I think we’re in for an interesting game tonight.

If I had to choose then I’d side with Uruguay to win this one as they’re simply better and odds of 5/4 are decent, to be honest. However, odds of 4/5 on over 2.5 goals here appeal to me far more on the basis that this game is vital for Peru and they have to attack. It also aids my cause that two out of the three games that both sides have played have gone over 2.5 goals and I don’t see that fluctuating tonight. For me, this game has over 2.5 goals all over it and 4/5 is a good enough price to take.

Verdict: Over 2.5 goals at 4/5.
