Today’s free tip is in the Primera Division game between Racing Club Avellaneda and Atletico Rafaela in Argentina.
Racing bring Diego Milito home; Racing start winning games. Racing lose Milito for a short duration; Racing don’t win games. Racing get Milito back; Racing start winning again. Spot the pattern? Whether he’s scoring or not, experienced Diego Milito is the key to their attack and his presence for Racing is absolutely invaluable. With him on the pitch, Racing have not only won at Belgrano de Cordoba but also at Boca Juniors so don’t doubt how good this Racing side can be when it comes to attacking.
Initially, I was all aboard the Centurion-Milito wagon in terms of Racing’s attacking prowess this season but the fact is that former River Plate academy product Gustavo Bou is the one stealing the headlines with five goals scored in six games, which is curious when you consider that he’s not actually an especially good player. Still, those three players with Hauche alongside them make Racing’s attack arguably the most potent in Argentina. Racing don’t have the best midfield and they certainly don’t have the best defence but when you can score goals, it stands to reason that you have a good chance of winning games and that’s the philosophy that Racing are operating under right now.
Racing are hosting Atletico Rafaela tonight, who are stubborn opposition but little more than that. If your team scores the first goal against them then you’ll usually be able to beat them. Why? Well, it’s because they specialise in defence, basically. Perhaps it’s not quite so prudent to call it “defending”, actually, but they certainly manage to intimidate their opponents with their tenacity and physical prowess so they’re certainly not an easy side to play against.
However, they’re not natural goal-scorers and it shows. They only have one way of playing football, which is why they’ve lost every Primera Division game this season when they’ve conceded the first goal. Atletico Rafaela don’t manage to push out and attack at all well; it simply doesn’t suit them to play that way so they don’t try to unless they’re forced into it. It’s quite clever of them to play that way, really, because most Argentinian sides simply can’t put the ball in the net on a consistent basis so from a percentages perspective, Atletico Rafaela are going to do enough to at least stay in the division. I can’t see their style working tonight, though, because that’s going to involve them keeping Racing out and I don’t honestly see how they’re going to do that.
To me, now that Milito is back, Racing should really be winning games like these rather easily at 4/5.
Verdict: Racing Club Avellaneda to win at 4/5 (odds seen at Bwin and Ladbrokes respectively)
