Today’s secondary featured game is the Bundesliga encounter between Wolfsburg and Augsburg. This game means a lot to both sides with Wolfsburg hoping for European football and Augsburg hoping to beat the drop so we should see an interesting game here.
Well, to be honest, with the way Wolfsburg have been playing, you’d be perfectly entitled to expect an entertaining game here whether it mattered or not. Wolfsburg’s carefree attacking style has led to some spectacular games over the past few weeks as they score for fun but concede some horrendous goals. They’re like a slightly less able version of Stuttgart right now but are no less entertaining to watch. Their firepower cannot be denied, however, with Croatian hitman Mandzukic finally finding his feet in Germany. Defensively, I’m more likely to keep a clean sheet on my own against Augsburg than Wolfsburg are so don’t be surprised to see the plucky visitors score here. However, Wolfsburg are the superior side with a superb manager and are playing with plenty of flair at the moment so I expect them to do enough to win this game.
Augsburg aren’t a side to take lightly at the moment. I really thought that they were done for by the time the pre-season break came about but they’ve returned with such vigour that it’s hard to not smile at the unpredictability of football and the magic of determination and belief. Augsburg are one of the weakest sides in the Bundesliga but you wouldn’t know it from watching them over the past few weeks. They’ve played with power and swagger and I hope they stay up solely for the way they’ve played lately – they’ve been fantastic! However, they’ve looked a bit leggy of late and it’s no surprise, really – they’ve worked so hard of late that it was bound to happen sooner or later. I’m sure Augsburg will be as motivated as can be for this game but I don’t think that they’ll be able to copy with Wolfsburg physically, be it in the whole game or be it as the game draws to a close.
Therefore, I’m left with no option but to take the home win here. Wolfsburg play better football and possess greater firepower. I expect plenty of goals in this game but the home win appeals to me here.
Verdict: VfL Wolfsburg to win at 4/5.

My tips:
Lombard Papa vs Szombathelyi Haladas – away win with draw no bet at 6/5.
One of the weakest sides in the Soproni Liga entertain one of the most in-form sides in Hungary right now and we’re getting 6/5 on the away win with draw no bet cover? Count me in! Haladas are far from a reliable side on the road due to suicidal defending but their ability to put the ball in the net can never really be questioned. It’s been a couple of years since they were in Europe (and that’s the reason they were in Europe – goalscoring!) but even through their down spell, Haladas were always able to score goals. They’re an attack-minded side and that’s what makes them who they are. If your team faces them, you’re in for a hard game without 100% work-rate and taking your chances. Happily, Lombard Papa are a spineless team and that makes them the ideal opponents for Haladas. Lombard Papa offer little to no attacking threat and thus goals conceded tend to be fatal ones. They’re battling to avoid the drop so expect a committed display from the hosts but there’s only so much they can do without any real talent. They may scrape a draw from this game if Haladas are daft enough to allow them to do so but I don’t see the visitors losing this one, based on the way they’ve performed of late. Therefore, my call is to take the away win with draw no bet at 6/5.
