Olimpo vs Atletico Lanus
FreeTerrible saturday – probably the worst I’ve seen in a while – so my apologies guys.
Further apologies are in order, however, with there being just one game that I like today! It’s a really barren day of football betting-wise, in my humble opinion, so bet wisely if at all.
My featured game today is the Argentinian Primera Division game between Olimpo and Atletico Lanus. Newly-promoted Olimpo are finding life tough in the top flight and I expect Lanus to add to their woes tonight after some convincing displays of late.
With just two wins from ten Primera Division games, Olimpo are really struggling to survive in this division. They’re conceding an average of nearly two goals per game and aren’t scoring even a goal per game on average, hence their predicament. They’ve lost five consecutive games leading into this encounter and have conceded at least twice in each game. They’ve played good sides during that run, sure, but Lanus are a good side too – Olimpo are going to struggle here if this run continues. Olimpo work hard but they bring so little else to the table that it’s no surprise at all that they’re being destroyed currently.
Lanus aren’t traditionally good travellers but three consecutive wins leading into this game should lend them the momentum they need to do well here. Their win at Boca Juniors was a tad on the fortunate side but their win at home to San Lorenzo de Almagro last match was convincing so I’m happy to back them again. They’ve already won three out of five on the road this season and should really make it four tonight. My problem with backing Lanus is that they’re not natual goalscorers so there’s always the risk of them failing to win if they fall behind. Nonetheless, they compensate for that by being strong defensively so Lanus remain a difficult unit to encounter.
I also have to favour Lanus here because they have better strikers than Olimpo. Don’t get me wrong – none of Lanus’ strikers are stars – but they all get on the scoresheet to cover for one another when required and always give their all for their team. Lanus are very well-organised and as the superior of these two sides, you have to feel that they’ll be able to exploit the weaknesses of their mediocre hosts tonight and make it count by taking three points. Away wins in Argentina are not common, however, so do approach with caution – I simply think that the odds are a bit longer than they should be for this selection with the above in mind.
Verdict: Atletico Lanus to win at 27/20.
